Default went to the track with new motor ......results....

were TERRIBLE. I initially ran a 12.0 at 125mph...i think 7.8 in the 1/8 @ 98 mph with a 2.1 60' on Et streets . Things went downhill after that. I started noticing that i was losing boost somewhere. Each gear i would have less and less boost. I gotta figure this one out. It returned to normal on the way home....would hold 13 psi fine. 100 miles later it started getting flakey again......spiking to 14 and then settling at 9-10. I'm going to check all connections today, again, and try again friday maybe. Traction was terrible. They didnt vht the track which is unusual for Steele. Once it hooked up tho....it felt good. I'm still optimistic about getting a 10.99 in the heat. Raceweight was 3700# I could get off the line with just a little spinning but once boost hit I lost traction. I HAVE to get Harlans 2 step...with a little boost at the line the tires shouldnt get such a shock as the boost comes in.

What motor did you build? Stock ci? I would like to know some details on your set up. trapping 125 is just sick! Especially the first time out. Get some of the bugs worked out and throw a good tune on it and you should run solid mid 10's. Congrats on a badass car!

Your run:
2.10 60'
7.8 @ 98 MPH 1/8-mile
12.0 @ 125 MPH 1/4-mile

Let's look at my best run:
1.65 60'
7.07 @ 99.49 MPH 1/8-mile
10.98 @ 125.83 MPH 1/4-mile

Let's see...
2.10 - 1.65 = .45
hmmm...

125 MPH trap speed after THAT inital work?

Dude... I don't know what your boost issues are. But, I'd say with a tune and proper holeshot, you are sitting on top a MONSTER!

Work it out and post your success story.

my combo:
Ross 9:1 pistons....on stock rods with arp bolts
stock crank with gm/clevite bearings
01 ls6 cam with matching springs
midly ported stage 1 heads..he did the bowls....i did the exhaust ports...stock valves
ls1 intake (ls6 on the way)
stock rear 3.42
ram clutch
stock maf

I have a pretty good tune....just need to do some exhaust work on the downpipe and crossover pipe before any more boost will do me any good. After the exhaust work, it will get interesting I was happy with the trap speeds considering the et info

not to bad considering your 60' (be glad its not like mine 2.23) and its hotter out then it was at your best run, right?

What did you dial your boost at?
what octane you using?

when i get my heads back on i'll be at 9.2:1
i hope i can run some good boost llike you.

125 MPH is nothing to sneeze at ya know

On the boost loss, is it just less in each gear or does it drop off as the rev's come up?

Are you running an adjustable boost controller or just the deltagate?

It is good to know that a 9:1 motor w/ mild heads and cam can turn 125. Now if i can get my car finished we can see what a 8.7:1 big cam setup can do on 15

Vince I don't think that I was losing boost when i went 125....just wasn't running the 13 psi that I'm tuned for...don't know what boost honestly. I really feel like the bigger downpipe will get me where i need to be. I have got to get off my lazy butt and get that changed. The 2" log for the turbo may be too small as well but that's last on my list. Gotta get the ls6 intake on as well. I should be around 8:75-1 myself with the combustion chambers being opened up a bit. Obviously it was not too impressive but a good start. At this point, raising boost only increases my peaks.......i want to get that hp/tq curve flat. I'm just trying to work with the turbotech kit a little at a time. They could "fix" this kits shortcomings very easily and make a lot more power....that's something I have never understood about turbotech. ya got a good base....just tweak it some and you have a bad *** setup.

Hurley....i'll post here so others can see where they might save money or go a better route.
ross 9:1 pistons with stock rods and arp rod bolts. These were from ARE...1100.00 and you get 100 back when you send in your stock rods. I am very pleased with this part.
Cometic head gaskets (boost ready) 100 bux each.
I think the new Gm mls gaskets would be fine but I'm not as patient and methodical with tuning as Harlan so i needed any extra insurance. happy with these as well....and are reuseable!!!!!
01 ls6 cam/springs. If you don't work on any of the turbotech exhaust, I THINK you might as well stay with the stocker. I lost some bottom end torque. I'm sure some is from lowering compression but some from the cam. I think the 6.0 truck cam would be better in my current setup. The motor just cant breathe over 5500 with the kits exhaust setup so might as well keep your bottom end torque.
Jwis timing chain from katech with stock gears. This thing is looser than my stock 46000 mile chain. 110.00 bux and this i'm not happy with. I shoulda gone with a stocker or maybe something else.
my heads....hmm....with the stock turbo kit....keep yours and just get some springs. Harlan made great power with the stock heads.
Arp head studs....200 bux...no problem taking off heads on the car...I'm happy with that.
Got bearings from gm (mains) and clevite rod bearings.
Used stock main caps...bolts....even my stock oil pump. Now I know people are gonna flip when they hear that I kept my stock oil pump. With the crapshoot concerning ls1 oil pumps, I decided to just use mine that was working fine. I reused all gaskets except for head gaskets of course. No leaks so far. I tried to do this cheaply when possible. My car is not going to run with Harlans but I'm still gonna have a lot of fun with it just the same.

Jerry, good to hear you are up and running man. I have been watching the FI section to see when you were going to post some timeslips. Im hoping for 130+ here in the next few weeks with my new setup.

Give me a call today man. I have those race pipes you were trying to buy. If you still want them I will hook ya up.

190 for block to be bored....35 i think to have crank polished as it was still within specs. I assembled it myself.

Ron..will call. yeah you'll be faster but......i'll be slower

Harlan the boost would do my normal spike to 14 then settle at 10.....next gear spike to 12..settle at 8.....10 then 5....it was way weird. I think the tt kit comes with a racegate. Im using that along with a ball/spring type boost controller. Worked good up until Sunday. Then it went nuts. On the way home Sunday night, a ricer was riding my *** on an entrance ramp. Boost spiked and held at 15 psi (i'm expecting 10) and I damn near lost the car...it was MOVING!! Just gotta get that curve flatter in the upper rpms...screw the peaks...i want area under the curve

first of all from the b**chs mouth "it takes a while to runs 10s or what it should run" you get all pissed b/c the first time you run the car it don't do 10s remenber what you said so with that said it was over 100 heat index on sunday and the track sucked so all you need is cooler temps and find why you are losing boost you will have it in no time chill have a beer it will come.

Gotta tell ya about a GN that was there tuning specifically for street racing in AL. AS far as excuses go....I got a ton of em....i have been reading at supraforums.com and compiled a nice list to use for myself

you have a bad *** car it just takes a little time to get it the way you want it plus cooler temps would help.
