Default Turbo too big?

I'm doing some "homework" on a Turbo setup. My goal is to have 600RWHP for a roadcourse (will some some drag racing time, but primarily roadcourse)

Anyways, after doing some reading and calculating I came up with a T88 as a good match for this power level. (calculating 750HP at the crank ~ 69lb/min air.....T-88 reaches this at 13psi@6300 RPMs with a PR=1.88 and 80% efficiency) Now I'm new to the whole turbo setup, so does this seem right? What are real world results of a T-88 on a LS1, stock displacement with forged pistons (might drop compression with dished pistons and/or 6.0L heads). I'll be running some sort of IC (haven't decided what kind yet either)

Seems to me this turbo is kinda big for the "modest" power I want to make and will have more lag that I want on a road course.

Thanks for the input.

A T88 is too big for the roadcourse and stock cubes, no doubt about it.

For road racing you will want VERY quick spool up for exit cornering speed, and quick throttle response for controlling drift. So with that said, for a drag race setup the T88 is an awesome piece, but for road course racing you will want to step down. For 600rwhp I would run a nice 70mm unit. You may can squeeze a 67, but the IAT's may run a little higher. You can also run a small A/R ratio but you will have to do some tricks to alleviate backpressure. If you want some road racing turbo help give us a call. We help several road racing customers in AUS. Just depends on how tricky you want to make the setup.

That's what I was thinking, but looking at the numbers, the T88 looked good (which I"m sure for drag racing it would)

I'm just doing research right now, so it will be awhile before I'm even close to being ready to buy.

I agree with these guys, run a 67 or 70mm unit for road racing. Be sure to get an appropriate sized turbine side. It is often overlooked and it will have a huge effect on the performance of the turbo.

even for dragracing a T88 would be to big if your only trying for 600rwhp, a T74 or T76 unit would make better power as it would be closer to the effiency range and spool alot quicker.

its the 13psi at 6300rpm thing.. you want your max boost at the bottom of the rev range, not the top
