Default "safety" of a turbo"...

ok guys, just a quick question. i plan to go with raymer's kit next spring/summer. if i have everything installed correctly and professionally and have a proper tune and run say 5psi boost...do you think my engine will be ok on stock compression until i can back the pistons down maybe say a year later. my car is not a daily driver and i go to the track very seldom. the car also sits in the winter...

yes it should be fine. Get greedy like I did, up the boost and dont have the tune/fuel for it....you will be rebuilding

Where is the line on the stock bottom end?
If you watch the tune, keep the fuel system good, etc.. Think we can expect to survive long term with 8psi?

melloYellow....go ahead and get ready for the rebuild....you are already getting greedy
I think 8 psi is liveable with 93 octane and a good Mustang dyno wideband tune

The trick probably is to tune the fuel system for a certain level of boost, then not adjust on the fly, eh? The temptation to adjust the boost without addressing the tune or fuel is the prob, right?

What psi were you running when you had problems?

Lots of people don't realize this yet but boosted hp is less stressful no the motor then NA/nitrous hp. It's the detonation that has to be kept under control, that's what limits boost.
