Default new z28 supercharger

I just bought a new 2002 convertible z28 with perf axle ratio I think its 323?. I want to put a supercharger on the car.I have to go with a mild boost because it is a daily driver I will put 15 to 20 thousand miles a year on it.I am thinking of a pro charger with a 5lb boost . Has anyone done this mild set up to a bone stock z28(stock exhaust etc...)?What can I expect in the 1/4 .The car currently has hypertech power tuning 160 stat a modified air box k and n filter and turned a best of 13.49 and a worst of 13.65 on an 85 degree day with stock 16 inch rims and tires (the traction was terrible I lost a lot off the line due to crazy wheelspin). The car had about 4.5 k miles on it on this day.I just ordered 18 x 10.5 rear wheels hopefully I will hook better and 18 x 9.5 fronts. What tires are good for this car?I would appreciate any suggestions or feed back. Thanks

As long as you put a good tune into it, it will last a LONG time at 5lbs. i have almost 4000 miles on my setup and i am running almost 8lbs. Car drives just like an everyday driver, until you step on the pedal, then hold on. I still get great gas milage (220-275) depending on driving conditions. If i am in the gas a lot, i get like 140 miles. ATI procharger makes a great kit for our cars! OR check into a turbo setup. you can get into a Turbo technology kit and be just as reliable and make just as much power.

And i can tell you from experience, 18's are hard to get to hook with boost. on my 18's my best time is 12.49 @ 122 and on a 16' ET street. the car runs 11.34 @ 127. So 18's are not a very good track tire, but look sweet as hell on the street. Good luck, keep us informed

Oh yeah, boost is VERY addictive. Just wait you will find out

Yes a 5lb boost is good, I got a 7lb boost on mine(procharger) and I still have it as a daily driver. But boost is very addictive. So be careful. cause u'll always want more power, after u get more power

Definetely go with the Procharger kit, had mine on for about a year, and love it, no complaints, drivability is still good, with gobs of power on command, but definetely get either a set of really expensive drag radials on the rear, or som et streets for the track, or you'll never get you 60' below 2 seconds.

As mentioned you can bolt a 5/7# kit onto a stock LS1 and use it daily with no problems. We also have alot of customers running the 9# Vortech kit for over 50,000 miles. They have also been having good results. You won't be able to use the HPP3 or your current airbox with either of these kits. Those could be sold to offset the cost. I'd expect at least a 1 second decrease in your 1/4 mile times depending on traction.

Hope this helps,
Tom

Tom, I'm still going to pop for a S/C as soon as I have the funds together. Can I ask some basic air intake questions?

ATI - It looks like the box over the radiator does away with the airbox (and radiator support) all together. Is that true? Is it picking up air down low after the install?

Vortech - I absolutely hate the stock air lid, especially the big boxy air silencers that cover up too much of the motor's front. I know I'll have to take my DirectFlo off, but is there a lid out there that will fit Vortech and NOT have the silly air silencer boxes? Can I mod my factory one to be that?

Thanks in advance!

Mike M
