Default fule pressure problem?

ok , i have the GWP/ATI procharger kit,so i have the areomotive inline pump and i also just installed a new intank walbro 225.
i had this problem before the walbro where the fule pressure would drop at high rpm and cause detonation.
i checked the areomotive pump and it's working fine.

skip a few weeks, now i have the walbro in and when driving around my fule pressure is 50 psi and it drops to 40 psi at part theottle anywhere before 0 vaccume.

and recently i notced that the car wouldn't start up right away, and when i turn the key in the ign. on position , the fule pressure doesn't build up to quick, and goes back to 0 as soon as the pump stops priming ( as opposed to before when the pressure would drop from 60 psi to 50)

what is going wrong??
is it a fule regulator issue??

Since no one has responded, it definetly sounds like a fuel pressure regulator issue. If its leaking you will get no pressure at startup.

The fuel preshure regulator is mounted on your fuel rail. They make aftermarket kits to convert your stock one into an adjustable one or you can just buy an aftermaket one. I would recomend just buying an after market on. It is a quick and easy swap.

1dirtyz I assume you have a 98 and above camaro, if so then the stock regulator is not on the fuel rail its in the tank. The little "regulator" on the rail is a pulse damper. I thought GWP used a FMU or something similar to up fuel pressure with boost. If not then your pressure will drop, but you still have a bad regulator.

You can install a regulator outside the tank, thats how all the other kits do it. Not sure how well it will work with a messed up regulator in the tank. Some kits install the regulator were the return line goes back into the tank. This is a little trickier to control pressure wise, but supposidly the CAS regulator works well. You can also mount the regulator up at the fuel rail which gives better control, but requires a new return line.

best idea would be to pull the tank and have a look around.. could be the regulator itself (like mine) or you could have a cut or a kink in the pressure line that is impeding flow.

if you add a regulator you want a boost referenced one to equal the boost pressure in the intake. the cas one is really nice, i have one sitting in front of me.

if you are certain it is your regulator then you can leave it in place and plumb the new one ahead of it.. but the best bet would be to remove the old one just cuz its not doing anything at that point.

let me know if you have any other questions.

I think I would address the fuel pressure not holding when the pump shuts off. If you fix that you will probably fix everything. The fuel pressure should hold even with a kinked hose. Yes volume would be down butit should hold pressure. My guess is that you have a large leak in the tank, either regulator or connection. If it won't hold pressure keep looking. Yes it will drop some but SLOWLY.

thanks guys,
where would the leak in tank most likely be?
could it be due to the new fule pump not holding the pressure ( not likely) or could it be a bad regulator , or the line between the pump and the top of the module?

gm doesn't sell the regulator (in tank one ) seperately ?

if all else fails and i can't find a reason for the pressure drop, how could i plumb the new regulator ??? in tank? outside?
and where can i get one ( web sites if possible)
any one have any pics?

thanks

thanks red,
i belive you are tru about the pulse damper.
the GWP kit does not use an fmu but instead they give you 50 lbs injectors and an inline aeromotive pump.
the set up worked fine till this started to happen.

any idea if i could install a fule pressure reg. without dropping the tank?

Need more details on were you installed the regulator. The regulator maintains the pressure after the pump is off, there is also a check valve on the pump that does a similar thing. Probably have to go into the tank and have a see. I assume you have no external leaks and the injectors, etc are not leaking.

the regulator went in where the T in the lines is , just after the fule filter. there are no external leaks.

what should i look for when pulling the module out? where would the check valve be located?
