turbo 6.0
i have figured it up i have around 2500 give or take to build the motor....i just got me a 6.0 shortblock earlier this week, and i want to build it to the best as my budget will alow me too...im wanna make 5-600 hp and still be able to drive the bitch around town and be super reliable...i wanna do this bitch right the first time, i dont wanna have to go back to fix somethin...
should i the block sent off to have it checked out, machined etc?
what pistons/rods should i go with?
will the stock crank be fine?
what oil/water pump should i go with?
what cam?
im gonna get some lq9 or 4 heads should i have the ported?
what intake/ tb should i go with? ls6? fast?
anything else?
thanks
mike
first is the block new? used? if it is used i would get it honed or overbored
second is this going in a f-body?!
third do you want more cubes? you could overbore the block and (i beilive you can get the stock crank modified for a longer stroke if not you will need a new crank) make it into a 408
do you have a turbo already?!? or is this gettign a turbo in a year? 2?
you need to decide what compression ratio you want to run. If it is gettign a turbo you will want lower compression, if not i would make it higher compression to make more power.
obviously you will want to port the heads, but that will cost money, and with only 2500 i doubt you can build the motor and afford a decent port and polish.
also yo could get 500hp maybe 550 with a big cam, good heads, big compression, and a good tune out of a 408, but you will not make 600+ without nitrous or a turbo (with low a CR)on that setup.
its gonna go into an s10
i dont know about the cubes, would it be in my best intrest to go bigger?
im gonna buy the turbo/intercooler with my tax return....
i dont know about the comp. ratio....
over a longer period of time i will be able to spend more $ on it but i want to have the basics planned out and going in one direction with it (know what i mean?), just between now and Xmas i have about 2500
your tax return gunna be atleast 4k? cuase thats what it's gunna cost(going cheap) at a minnimum to setup forced induction
the lower you compression the more boost you can run on pump gas, you lose a little power by droping you cr but you will make up for it with boost.
aka 8.0-1 cr will alow you to run alot of boost but you will not have as much power n/a if you run a comp ration of around 10-1 you will more power n/a, but you will be limmited significantly more on how much boost you can run on pump gas.
do some searches and see waht others have for combos and what they are making for power
A: Absolutely necessary.
Q: what pistons/rods should i go with?
A: Search around, there are lots of great companies. Opinions differ on who makes the best stuff.
Q: will the stock crank be fine?
A: Have it inspected and cleaned up. Talk to your machine shop. An LS1 crank is a better design, from what I've read, though.
Q: what oil/water pump should i go with?
A: Blueprinted oil pump. Stock water pump.
Q: what cam?
A: Stock 6.0 cam should do fine for 500-600 HP, with the proper setup.
Q: im gonna get some lq9 or 4 heads should i have the ported?
A: If you have the $, yes.
Q: what intake/ tb should i go with? ls6? fast?
A: I'm researching this myself for my project, so I don't have a good answer. Fast = $, LS6 = less $, LS1 = even less $. Depends on how much $ you have.
Q: anything else?
A: Yes. Have a lot of $.
