Default Streetable 500-550 rwhp possible?

Help me settle a debate. There is a 2003 Kenne Bell Cobra on ebay with claims of 617 rwhp at 50K with reserve not yet met. A buddy of mine says it only has a 5K kit added to a stock cobra to make that figure with 19 lbs of boost! I told him for 40K I could have a LS1 with decent street manners with 500-550 rwhp with a 6-8 psi blower or even without a power adder (stroker motor I'm guessing). Help me guys! Anyone have dyno figures or times with costs to back me up?

Thanks!
Derek

I have seen LS1's with turbos or turbo that have 450-500hp on a stock motor! And that only cost $5,000 and heads 6.0L and tune and 550hp. It is very posible mostly b/c of the price of a camaro/firebird compared to the 03 Cobra. Not to mention the price for a multivalve engine. I could get close to 600hp if I went with the bigger Incon turbos! My car is 93 pump gas.

well with a $5000 blower setup you could hit 500 at like I think 10-12 psi. Add some heads to that for another $2000 and you could run that with pump gas at like 7-9 psi. I wish I knew what I had. With 7psi my trap rwhp is 46xrwhp(124mph) with a twinturbo setup. That and are you talking about just making 500-550 rwhp or making and holding (drivetrain) that much?

I just had Norris Motorsports install a TT setup on my 2000 SS. This is a Stage I install and she came out 486 RWHP,493 RWTQ!! To go to Stage II I would only need injectors and PCM programing, this would be well over 500 RWHP, however the stock motor probably would not last long and the "POS" 10 bolt would be dust!!
As for driving it feels like a normal LS1 UNTIL you hit the GAS!!! Then you can kiss the tires goodbye!!

To beat up on a 2003 Cobra that already has $5K of upgrades and 617RWHP, you'll need quite a bit in my opinion. I'd say a built 4L60E, a 12-bolt, headers, a cam, and 7lbs. of ATI/Vortech at a minimum. That's going to cost WAY more than $5K in parts alone, and it won't quite get you 617RWHP (more like 500-525). But with the right convertor, suspension, and tires, I think you could smoke him in a flagged street race. From a roll though?
But I think everyone will agree you'll be happier keeping and souping up the Formula.
In the grand scheme of things, however, I think your LS1 Formula has a LOT more potential.
Best of luck on whatever you decide to do.

The FI C5 LS1's are putting down 550-600rwhp pretty reglarly now. But your LS1 budget for these mods should be at least $12k to do it right. I'd target 8-10psi also.

Auto's are starting to have problems. The manual aftermarket clutches are starting to look pretty good.

ive spent a total of $30,000 on my car (used TA 30k miles + new engine and turbo kit and supporting mods), totally a daily driver, 20+mpg. Im still on stock rear and suspension, my only down falls.
