Scavenge pump veterans inside please (again)
My question is this: those of you with scavenge pumps, how loud are they? I think anyone standing next to my car would ask what that noise is...that's how loud this one is. If that's unusual like I think it is, I don't want to run it on the car and risk it failing.
Is there a company (or an individual for that matter) who will look over these Tilton pumps? I can take it apart easy enough, but I don't know what to look for once inside there. I'd like some peace of mind from someone who has seen these things and knows what it should sound like and what it should look like inside. As a last resort, can anyone tell me where to get a brand new one?
TIA...

My pump does change in volume sometimes. Usually starting on a cold (below 40 deg.) morning, it is quite a bit louder than it gets after a minute or two.
Normally, as heard outside the car, its about as loud as my old Holley (blue) electric fuel pump that I had on a '70 Challenger mounted near the tank. A lay-person would probably notice the noise, but also would probably not attribute it to anything serious. Anyone who knows would think its an external in-line fuel pump.
I don't want to give bad advice, but I'd put it on. It sounds like its working properly, and like mine, could get quieter. The worst that can happen is that it would fail, and you would see the smoke from your exhaust long before you would do any damage to the car. As far as the cost of the pump, if its bad, its bad. If its good, its good, and you putting it on the car will not change things.

That's my great concern is that it would fail...and I did see the smoke with my original pump and it is in fact still pumping. But if there will always be that clear warning sign then I say what can it hurt? If anyone else thinks differently let me know...otherwise I am going out to put that thing back on.
Thanks.
Its only the exhaust. Worst that could happen is that you crud up the O2 sensors, and that will set an SES light, so you'll know. I've driven my car for a total of 5 miles in that condition, and still have the original O2 sensors. As long as you test drive close to home, you'll be OK.
Also, realise that it takes quite a while to clear out once the pump is working. You'll probably see smoke under half throttle for the next 20 times of so, but it will diminish each time.
And if the pump were to fail and you were out in the middle of no were you could definetly fry the turbos, and the motor if you did not stop soon enough.
