Default valve job for FI setup?

I searched a little and couldn't find much... what are you guys' thought about valve jobs? I don't see a whole lot of people getting them... is the stock GenIII valve seat machined so good it really doesn't need any additional work or what?

My particular set of heads are 317's from a 2003 truck w/39k miles on them... debating whether I want a valve job before I go and spend money on a set of titanium retainers... just want to know which way the money will go farther! I'm looking for about 600hp on a turbo setup staying within the stock RPM range.

I would always do a valve job before installed used heads of any kind onto an FI engine.

i wouldnt skimp out on the ti retainers....having them reduces valvetrain weight, which in lets the valves move up and down easier, which in turn lets the motor rev more freely.and i believe theyre stronger as well...id do both personally.whats another $100-150 when doing a build like you are.

Yea, I am just trying not to get carried away!.. I'm not looking for higher RPMs either, which is where they really pay dividends. I want to make sure I take care of the basics before spending money on the other stuff. The only reason I am even considering the titanium retainers is because I'm getting a heck of a deal on them!

So what is the norm for a mildly aggressive FI system then... 3-angle? 5-angle?
