Default Possibly building a turbo motor....need some feedback

I am have been kicking the idea around for a while of throwing a turbo motor together. Right now I have a stock bottom end 346 LS1 w/ MTI stage 2 LS6 heads and X1 cam. The car made 420RWHP and 400RWTQ. I have been kind of following the LS1 motorsports turbo kit with the t-63 turbo.

Here is what I have been thinking about doing. Using the current heads and cam, putting in a 8.0:1 forged lunati rotating assy and moving to a T-80 Turbo. Assuming that there was a big enough fuel system to support the motor would 15-18psi be to much? And what kind of numbers might I see? Would the stock block handle this kind of pressure?

I am still new to turbo systems so this might be going WAY out on a limb. Any help would be appreciated.

with 15 psi you might see the heads lifting, I think the block will be ok but keep the heads down, Also what makes good power on a na car might not do it in fi, cam might need some atention. (whats $350 to do a cam?) Im in the same boat as you Im looking into a motor now, going iron i think. Good luck

what kind of budget are you on?
streetcar? strip car?
8.0 is pretty low unless you go over 20psi to make up for it i'd think. but if your using your heads and they are milled to around 11.0 compression on your current set up, then you would be around 9.0 with them on 8.0 pistons, which is a good spot for a street/strip car.

long as you can hold the heads on, anything is possible as far as output.

i dont know if there have been many sleeved blocks or o ringed blocks with big turbos on it that are running around yet, when they will we will see if the head seal vs. hp number goes up higher than the low 700's its at now.

Would head studs help with higher boost applications?

ARP head studs, they go for like 250 I think...

When I do a built motor (probably late summer) I'm doing a budget build up...

Stock Block (honed, stock bore)
Stock Crank
Eagle Rods with ARP rod bolts
Diamond Boost pistons (not sure what compression)
ARP head studs

This motor build up with machine shop cost and everything will cost me close to 4000, probably a little more because I'll do the MMS crank pully and a smaller boost pully...hope the belts don't decide to slip on me...

But I should have new dyno #'s of the current setup next week...hope it holds together...

Doing cometic gaskets right now when the TEA's go on this up coming week...Also doing 2 breather valves and ditching the PCV system...

the problem isnt the head studs i don't think, its the head raising off the block between them.

Some have actually said that there aren't enough bolts holding down the heads, so they lift, or warp between the bolt hols, and blow head gaskets, you could/should have the block o-ringed, along with your head studs, we are using an iron block, o-ringed, with head studs, and cometic gaskets.

Is that true? I'm planning on having done to mine.

Here's the price on my build up so far:
6.0 block $400 (.060 over)
6.0 crank $100 (used 01)
Diamond pistons: $550
Eagle H beam rods: $480 (come with arp's)
Head studs $350 (formulation's)
Machine work: $1500
ARE 6.0 heads: $1000 (used)
TOTAL: $4380 (375ci long block)
