turbo? school me??
I'm contemplating going with a single turbo set up but i''m not quite sure what all is involved with it. I can get the turbos myself and was thinkin of custom making a "kit". Nothing too wild by any means. prolly not much bigger than a t-3. or would that be a waste of time? Just tryin to get some ideas and info about them and i know you guys on here know ur stuff......
alright.....school is in session!!!
lemme have it..... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Re: turbo? school me??
If you have the time and patience for it; go for it! I spent 2 months laying on the garage floor designing before I built my LT1 turbo kit.
Two t3s would be to small for a stock LS1. For a single turbo, I would recommend a T72 or a T76. I am running a T72 on car. I've gone 128mph in the 1/4 on an 11.9 run with a 2.2 60' time and bouncing the revlimiter before the end of the track. Engine is an internally stock LT1. At SLP day last week, I ran an 12.8 at 90 something lifting at 1/2 track and an 12.3 at 117 after getting loose at the big end. Damn nittos!
The larger turbocharger will let you stay effecient all even at low boost and efficiency is the key to power and not blowing things up! If your source can't get the larger hybrid turbos, PM me and I'll make you a good deal.

Re: turbo? school me??
I just did a bit of math, and 2 60 trim T3's would support an LS1. For a single, I think a T66 would be hard to beat. At low boost the T3's would be outta their range a bit, but not too bad. Considering the cost and availablity of T3's, that would be my choice.
FWIW, I tried to do what you are thinking of. In the end I bought a used turbotech kit. The custom fabrication absolutely killed me. If you have the ability/tools to do the fab work you could save yourself quite a bit of money.
