Default Twin Turbo C5 Questions, Please Help !!!

I am 99.9% sure I want this kit, before I lay out some big denero's I am hoping the turbo guru's out there can answer a few questions I have.

1. Is Turbo Tech a solid company that provides a good product and supports it after the sale with both tech support and warranty.

2. I plan on keeping the engine and trans ( A4 ) stock. at 6lbs of boost can the stock engine and trans handle the power.

3. Will the stock converter work properly or should I install a higher stall. I want to keep the car tight.

4. I was advised to install new 42lbs injectors is this a good idea and can the stock fuel pump keep up with demand.

5. Is it a good idea to install a trans cooler with this setup.

6. Will the car have better driveability during normal driving with a twin turbo than it would with a head / cam / headers / intake package and similiar power when mashing the pedal to the floor.

Thanks for your help

1. cant help ya here. i dont know anything about turbo tech.

2. ive heard the c5 transaxle is pretty stout but i could be wrong??? the driveline should be ok if you dont drag race it and you dont do any 150mph blasts down the highway. but to be on the safe side a hi-po trans rebuild wouldnt be a bad idea. engine should be fine as long as the tune is good and the engine was in good condition before. harlan made almost 600rwhp on the stock shortblock.

3. the stock converter might be a bad idea from a durability and performance stand point. might wanna do a small aftermarket one maybe a vig 2800 or something like that.

4. definently need new injectors 42lb'ers will work well. fuel pump MIGHT keep up if the engine stays totally stock besides the tt kit. a walbro 255 at least would be a good idea on the safe side though.

5. if you do a converter swap yes youll need a trans cooler.

6. definently yes. a heads and cam car of similar power would idle much worse and have worse driveability than even a mild turbo car and in most cases wouldnt even be able to make the same power as a turbo car.

im no expert so dont take this as gospel but this is my advice to the best of my knowledge but be sure to wait for others to chime in.

You will definitely need a fuel system upgrade. (injectors and fuel pump minimum) as well as a LS1 edit tune on a dyno (Mustang dyno is preferred for Turbo tuning.

I think a Vig 2800 stall converter would work great in your situation.

Tranny cooler is a good idea and I would look at a built tranny option down the road as well.

Good luck,
Chris

They are proven and the driveablity is there and proven. MTI, ARE, etc.. have all got great setups. Plus MTI is always great to deal with, and stand behind their products if it was their fault.

</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">As I've not delt with them, i can't really comment. But i have heard mixed responses, then again all places seem to get that from time to time.

</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The engine will handle it just fine. A proper tune is key for any power level with boost. At 6 psi on a stock motor you're probably in the neighborhood of 440 RWHP and 460 RWTQ with an auto. The trans should hold that, but a shiftkit might not be a bad idea.

</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">
3. Will the stock converter work properly or should I install a higher stall. I want to keep the car tight.
</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Stall speed will incease. Normally increases with the square root of torque increase. It will probably stall in the high 2k RPM range with that boost level. Nice thing about a stock converter is it couples very efficiently up top and has the normal 4th gear lockup. You could get by with it, but a converter with a higher torque multiplier would be nice <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">
4. I was advised to install new 42lbs injectors is this a good idea and can the stock fuel pump keep up with demand.
</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You WILL need bigger injectors. No doubt about that. 42's will leave you room to grow, and cost you only a little more than say 36's. Plus, at 8psi the 36's will be on the edge. Not much to play with there. At 6 psi, the stock pump will live. Go much more than that, and it's time to add a new pump.

</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">
5. Is it a good idea to install a trans cooler with this setup.
</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yep

</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">A stock motored turbo car will have the same off boost drivability. A heads/cam car will have trade off's. All depends on the cam. But to be in the mid 400 RWHP range the cam will be noticible. But then again, you can't argue with 400+ RWTQ from 2800 on w/ a turbo setup <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> Not many HC setups can claim that <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
