Default EGT gauge users inside>

FI application, What cruising EGT temp are you showing at highway speeds? This recent build is at 1200+, is that good or bad?

TIA..
Joe.

Joe,

I think that you might have better luck getting this answered at www.turbobuick.com, quite a few of those guys run EGT gauges.

Only problem with asking the Gn guys is there temperatures will be totally different than an our. A guy I work with has a Gn it runs 1600 deg at a AFR of around 11.5. Of course if he cranks the boost, changes what octane he runs, engine temperature, or anything else it drastically changes the temperature 500 degs or more. EGT is nice if you have one on each cylinder. Then you can see how each one is doing compared to another one. I would not use it to tune with since its not directly related to AFR.

Good point Gary.

Joe, try calling Rob Raymer at LS1M...I know that he has an EGT gauge in his turbo Z28.

thats probably normal for highway cruise.

i have a 2 channel in mine, but i cant remember what it runs at on the highway. i use it mainly for track runs and it seems that 1450ish it a good number to shoot for. for my gn, i used to run 1550 to 1600, so there is alot of difference.

Mine runs around 1100-1200 during highway driving at about 3000-3500 rpm.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I haven't used an EGT since 1995 and don't remember the conversion. When I get on the gas under boost, it will go as low as 1,100 so thats a bit on the rich side. But the 1,400 in change seems to be optimal on the highway, off to the dyno Sat.

Thanks again!
Joe.

I'm seeing about 1200 to 1250 cruising on the highway, but a WOT I'm beyond 1600 deg.

Less timing gives higher readings, although the effective combustion temp may be similar.

For EGT's, you really shouldn't go by them as an absolute number. The strength in their use is when you use them as a "delta gauge". Every time you make a change, see how it effected your EGT baseline, then use the information to tune your car back to where it was.

I'm sorry I forgot to add that egt temps vary on different setups. I know someone that has a GN, and he has seen 1700+ deg on his egt at wot with a good A/F ratio.

Your EGT temps is going to depend on where the probe is placed. Thats why you are seeing multiple answers.

not to dig too deep lol
but what is the benefit of running a EGT sensor? im considering it for my turbo build but im not sure how its used to help with monitoring and "tuning" if you can use it for such a thing. I figure this would be a good place to bring this up since its been dead for so long lol reason im asking is im looking for gauges and i have a 3pillar pod to fill and i came across a boost/vac and EGT gauge. just wondering if this is really useful
