Default Turbo with hotcam??

I found a hotcam for sale pretty damn cheap locally, and was wondering how you think this would work with a turbo setup. Specs are- 219/228 .525/.525 112. Has anyone tried this? Its similiar to the LS6 cam, except for the LSA.

I think that low of an LSA will be leaking out a good bit of boost... I'd go 114 as a minimum for a turbo cam.

See ive heard mixed things pertaining to the LSA of a particular cam, some say that overlap is more important than just the LSA alone, the hotcam has an overlap of ~0. Any other opinions on the matter?

From what i understand you want your intake duration bigger then your exhaust duration, unlike the hotcam. And i would try to get 114lsa or higher. I'm not saying the cam wouldn't work with the right tune. But i think you'd get better results with a different cam.

well if theres 0 overlap...i dont see how you could be blowing boost right through the combustion chamber into the exhaust...or have reversion problems.

but who am i to say.

For better spool you want a 115 lsa or higher. As for the duration, you want the intake bigger than the exhaust. You want to force as much air in, because the xhaust will always be forced out at the same rate

The LS6 cam has a split similiar to the hotcam, and works very well with boost. But it does have a higher (numerically) LSA. Im still not convinced either way, anyone know for sure?

I'd go with a used 224/224/114 cam over the hotcam, if you are hunting for deals.

ALOT of variables play in on this. With a high flowing tubular header and BIG high flowing turbine side you can run a split duration cam all day long since the I/E pressure ratio is close to 1:1 or at worst 1:1.5. Now most of the kits that are out for these cars , running a cam like this is not a great idea. Flowing as much exhaust as as these engines do makes the ratios close to 1:2 or even 1:3 with T4 based turbines and housings. We have some pressure readings as well as some others on this board that shows I/E backpressure #'s for some of the popular turbos and setups. Most are ugly .

Good to hear, thanks for the info. How do lobe designs come into play? I found a reverse split 227/224 on a 114 with XER lobes, I thought I read that softer lobes are ideal for FI?
