Would you build a 408ci TT or purchase a Viper and TT it?

You have a good builder and good resources in this community as well.

ps- Your 408 with 8:1 pistons, turbo cam and a T88 single kit would be sick

Chris
agreed look at parish he has a 408 and a t88 i believe. 1000+rwhp, go with that. but if you got the money and really want one go with a twin turbo c6 from lingenfelter. under 150k and can make as much powe as you want. sounds like deal to me. anyways good luck with what ever you go with

I agree that Vipers are not the most comfortable car to ride in, but, from a styling perspective I think Dodge hit a home run.

Show me a Vette with $150K in mods and I'll show you a Vette that is worth about $35K.

Cheers,

Mark

Wow!!!! You guys must think I am Tony W.(Nineball) or something. I do not have big money. I was just asking a question. Now I have been pricing Vipers and the prices have come down on the 97 GTS's. I even found some for 38,500 with 20k miles on them. Now I can afford that. I live in Florida and Heffner is right down the road from me. I think the cost of the turn key package is close to $35k. There goes the second mortgage...

if it was me id keep the vette, put in a 428 cubed warhawk block with 6 bolts per cylinder, and build a custom kit with twin T70's or get the ptk kit
should be good for 1500rwhp and affordable.

I've heard from a very reliable source close to Heffner that he is moving down to Florida if he has not already. So Vince is probably right.

i was just stating that about a lingenfelter twin turbo 427 corvette. 225k in a viper is the same priciple. its not worth anything near that. but thanks for the smart comment thats why i love message boards

It is clear I should twin turbo the Vette. I just have to decide whether to keep the M6 or go auto. Thanks guys for all the good suggestions. When FMS gives me an estimate I will let you guys know what I decide

I'm forced to make that decision as well. I think an auto would be better for your intended use (street racing).

Which TT kit did you go with?

how much power are you looking to make? You gonna use twin t 60's or gonna try to go bigger with maybe some t70's?

if you havent done fuel stuff yet, dont forget to add that in.

That is Allan Futrals job to tell me what the motor will need when we get to that point.

If looks/ergonomics weren't a requirement it would be the Viper hands down.

I think one thing people are overlooking is how the driveline survives in the Viper and C5/C6. High HP C5/C6's currently with lots of hp require frequent transaxle rebuilds. Super high HP autos need a rebuild every 20 passes or so (ask the fast guys on here) and the M6 guys break parts due to driveline shock even with upgraded 300M parts.

Vipers can have the T56 built to handle tons of power with billet input/output shafts, hardened gears etc. Also the Dana 44 out back has 9.3" ring gear I believe and is very very stout with upgraded axles. No real weak link here.

What was the fastest street car at the Hot Rod Pump Gas Drags? A twin turbo Viper running a powerglide. It ran 8.70's@165mph+..... on pump gas retaining a/c, p/s, and full stereo. With race gas it has gone in the low 8's I believe. With a T56 and race gas it went high 8's with factory IRS out back and 2:73 gearing! Fastest 6 speed/IRS car to date.

The next generation Vipers I have read may have the potential to be stroked to 580+ cubic inches. Even n/a they should be pretty insane.

Beyond the high 9 second range I think it gets to the point of who has the bigger kahones to keep their foot in it with DOT tires.

One thing for sure is that building a Viper costs cubic dollars and vendors know that they can charge you up the *ss.

I completely agree with ^. The C5 driveline sucks! Building the power to compete with the Vipers or any of the other guys isn't all that difficult. Trying to keep a drivetrain glued together in the C5 at >800 rwhp is pretty difficult. You can do a Turbo 400 conversion for the tranny (I believe the 6L80e conversion is coming very soon and will likely be the HOT ticket), but once the trans is addressed the differential will blow apart. I don't think anyone as come up with a good solution for this. Until someone builds a real replacment for the dif., backhalving the C5 might be the only solution.

BTW, those guys ran 8.xx with a T56!?!?! WOW!

Well I don't know about Heffenr in FL, but Roe Racing is down the road from me, in Green cove Springs (20 minutes osuth of Jacksonville) $10-12k will get you 900+rwhp in a SC Viper. They raelly aren't taht different in price to mod from a Vett, and are a much better all around car IMHO. I LOVE the Vette, but don't think it is in the same class as the Viper (C6 Z06 is a different story)
Either way, I'd give Sean Roe a call first before doing anything else to your Vette.

Gotta get the Sawzall out for that conversion. Unless, someone could built an IRS system based off a 9" center section... but this obviously would take a lot of machine work!

I didn't realize there were guys running 8's with the T56, that's wild! Post a link to the video please if you think of it.
