Would you build a 408ci TT or purchase a Viper and TT it?

They raelly aren't taht different in price to mod from a Vett, and are a much better all around car IMHO. I LOVE the Vette, but don't think it is in the same class as the Viper (C6 Z06 is a different story)
Either way, I'd give Sean Roe a call first before doing anything else to your Vette.
$10-12K will get you:

- Roe Blower (tops out at ~ 750rwhp...I know I had one): $7.5K
- Exhaust:
Headers: $2K
Cat-Back: $1.5
- Nos (only way to Roe Blower to 900rwhp)
- Install and Tune: $1-2K

The Roe S/C is the cheapest way to go by far. To do it right (i.e. twin turbo), you are looking at $25-30K and that doesn't include engine work. Try quoting a forged shortblock, it will make your head spin. Then try quoting a forged stroker, you'll throw up in your mouth a bit. No doubt about, if you building a Viper, you have to pay to play. In the end, its a great car to mod. I love both my Z and my GTS, but I like the feel of big block and twin turbos so much that I am converting my stock displacement single turbo Z to a 4xx TT setup...well if my tuner doesn't talk me out of it.

I am really leaning toward the C5. Now FMS agree's a auto would be the best. We all know the TH400 is the best for high horsepower applications. How many have the TH400 in their C5's with the IRS? Turbos with a Auto would be nasty!!

I dont know if they make th400's in the same layout that the vette transmission is in. I think you would have to get a custom differential for something of that nature, and at that point it might be cheaper to get a solid axle.

Dunno, but I would assume he has upgraded half shafts and some other fancy parts.

ECS has done one or two TH400 conversions and I believe they're working on doing others. It takes some cutting, but it can be done. The 4L80E does not fit in the C5.

As I stated before, the 6L80E is going to be the hot ticket since it's about the same size as the 4L60E but has no bands and is a 6 speed (OD). I believe it's controlled internaly and has provisions for controlling a sequential paddle shift system.

Even if you get a great trans in the C5 you're still stuck with the POS differential.

Smokin, thanks for posting that! That's impressive!!!

Will a 6 speed hold the power? The car might see light launches at the track. Is there a clutch that can hold massive power?

I don't know that. I think if you are talking "best" high HP drag racing setup, without going tube frame/backhalved etc... you are talking neverlifts solid axle conversion with a 'glide.

The exhaust gets really tricky with that setup... but if you want a drivetrain that will live running 8's... that's it.

I love the way vipers look, hate the way they sound, and hate they way they sit. You are doing good with building the corvette. I think you should start with a new engine so I can have yours though

Quick Reply: Would you build a 408ci TT or purchase a Viper and TT it?
