I have since replaced the small idler with a larger one with tall belt retainers on each side of the pulley. Got it from NAPA. Ask em to see there TEM catalog( for air conditioning) and you'll find a ton of idlers and ribbed pulleys that they stock.

I used the PTS Brackets but did not like how they were doing with the pully coming so close to the other side of the belt
I would put the shortest belt on that I could streach on and after 5 minutes of idle time the bult would hit at any RPM above idle so I reversed it and Machined on side of the tention bracket off 1/4 inch and made a new bracket to flip the thing around
have ran apout 3000 miles and it is doing fine

That's a nice setup there!

Had the same problem with the PTS brakets. PITA! Shimmed it a bit and doesn't pop off anymore but rides a bit crooked. The Incon bracket worked better. I'm gonna call up one of our customers with that kit and replicate it for our other customers, then there's no need for a different alternator and wiring.

this bracket works pretty good.

here is the thread about it
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...hlight=bracket

the tensoner goes on the inside of the belt which helps.

well crap, then others are having troubles too with the bracket.

Seems like such a "standard" mod for us FI'ers that you would think someone would have comeup with a good bracket that doesn't require any mods or tinkering

I will add yet another support to mine to try and hold it straight and see how she runs.

We are working on a billet aluminum relocation bracket now and hope to have it done in the next month or two. It will reuse the factory alternator. We already have the low mount one http://www.bmrfabrication.com/misc.HTM

Jonathan's bracket works perfectly! No shims or washers, just need a few bolts to slap it on the head and it lines everything up where it needs to be. His actually works better than the other two tti brackets I had before (they would eat the outside rib off the belt).

Cudos for good engineering Jonathan!!

thats exactly what I think we need , but to fit the top location
a nice billet aluminum bracket would be plenty strong enough and when designed correctly, no alignment problems!

please keep us updated on this progress. Thanks!

To BMR, if you do make up top mount alternator bracket...don't place the alternator too far towards the passenger side fuel rail for those of us with big fuel lines, fittings and what not coming out the end of the rails...Thanks

I was looking into this swap because the stock mount is low on the driver's side and that interferes with my steering box on my Monza swap. S&P offers some brackets to do this but are way pricey. It uses a different alternator too. I need a cheaper alternative.

Thanks guys,

Bill

Tothetop for future people wanting to run a turbo kit etc and need to relocate the alternator with a bracket retaining the stock alternator.

Any vendor and/or person wanting to step up and make a basic welded together steel relocation bracket that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and works with either the stock tension pullye or an aftermarket one like the Thunder Racing adj billet unit?

Mini-hijack! I'm so sorry, I couldn't pass it up.

I never get the overhead shot of the engine... With the alternator relocated to that top left position, does any of it get in the way of applying Corvette LS1 FRC's, Fuel Rail Covers?

I have the alternator relocated but didn't consider this when I ordered custom FRC's from Afterthoughtsauto.com months ago. There is no refund, so if I'm screwed, I'm screwed. I'm just dying to know. Anyone?

Might need a little trimming on the front corner, but they'll work.
