Default turbo mounting bracket

what material should i use to make my turbo mounting bracket? If i use 3 16ths steel will it conduct too much heat back to the engine? if I use qtr inch all' will it be strong enough and will it with stand the heat of the turbo? its a 76gts extended 9" from the head, not as heavy as a gt42, but not light. guessing I'd say 35#THANKS

Ok I found a metal characteristics chart, the melting point of allum' alloy is 620-735 degree cent' 1150-1350 f . I have heard of egt in turbos exceeding 1500 degrees. if this material is on the turbo flange, could it melt and wind up in the turbo?? THANKS

I hard mount most turbos in systems I build and I always use mild steel or SS for the bracket. Aluminum will most likely crack and fail with the heat weight combo especially if you're hanging something big like a GT42 off it. Depending on design and weight distribution 3/16"-1/4" will work fine.

so when is it nessesary to make a mounting brace for the turbo or turbos? and if you dont will the weight of the turbo crack the header? also where will you mount the bracket at, to the engine or the side of the engine compartment?

You can also use rod and heim ends.. Small ones of course and make a tripod..

Attaching the heim end to existing bolt holes on the turbo.

mount it to the engine if possible, if you support it from the frame or body you need a flex joint in your piping running from it. if you support it just with the headers,it's a lot of weight and will crack them in time. mt 76gts weighs maybe 35# i know a gt42 is close to 50#, the good old cast iron ones will support them with no problem, just couldn't find ones that would fit!!
