Turbo Nova Finally runs!! Pics-->
heres some pics i took tonight.

Man that looks killer! Definately makes me want to drop the ol drivetrain from my bird into a early 60's muscle car.....64-65 GTO or even a 61 Ventura...always had a soft spot for Venturas.J

pretty sure at least before they switched to displacement on demand (not sure after that) that they were all iron as gm didnt have an aluminum 5.3 then.
I would love to get a 100% confirmation on this. I thought I read this back when Car Craft had a big article on various GenIII and GenIV engines.

well it was in like mid 04 to late 04 that the trailblazer and the envoys started using the aluminum blocks, i got an 03 5.3L cast iron in my 87 gta and it came out of a trailblazer, i remember reading about the aluminum 5.3 a little while after i got mine, i was P*ssed about it. and i think they had the 5.3 aluminum block with out the DoD for like 1 year, not sure though

only difference is bore and stroke, and an iron block. 323 cubic inches vs 346. Other than that everything is pretty much the same.
Headers I made from schedule 10 stainless elbows. 1 1/2 pipe size has actual size of aprox 1 7/8 and .109 thick less likely to crack than .065 tube.
All the elbows i purchased at macmaster.com page 16 online catalog.
the elbows for the headers were $5.70 each.
the cross over pipe is 2" pipe sch 10 (outside diameter of 2.5") then tees into a 2 1/2 pipe (diameter of 3") as it goes into the turbo. Downpipe is 3" pipe (diameter of 3.5")
Just so everyone is aware, pipe sizes and tube sizes are not the same. Tube is measaured from the actual O.D. pipe is measured on the inside of schedule 40 (standard plumbing size). meaning all 3" pipe has the same outside diameter of 3.5" regardless of the wall thickness. Its a standard thing.
Pipe is WAY cheaper than tubing, and stronger.
I also screwed my fuel rail up, bent it. so im ditching the whole intake and running an Edelbrock Victor Jr & their fuel rails.
some of my parts:
MP GT-45 turbo
Tial 44mm wastegate
Tial 50mm BOV
turbonetics 43# injectors
Stock 5.3L shortblock
stock cam
ported 6.0L heads
Aeromotive A1000 fuel pump & regulator
TH-350 full manual valve body
TCI super streetfighter nitrous converter.
ford 9" w 3.50 gears
the car is backhalfed w/ 4-link setup
The whole 5.3 is just a test engine to get everything running right. I plan on building a bigger killer shortblock sometime.
