Default The Turbonetics Super T76

I am going to buy my turbo this week. Wanted to get input on the Turbonetics Super T76 and the Turbonetics T76. How do you feel about Turbonetics Turbos? Should I be looking at a different brand? What is the difference between the super and regular.

I am putting this on a rear mount setup. I am looking to make 800rwhp with it on a 408. I will be using it on my present 346 that is factory compression ratio but plan to limit the boost to something between 10 to 15psi while on that engine. That engine has stock shortblock. With a good intercooler, what do you think would be a safe boost pressure to limit it at on that 346? It will go all out on the 408(which is being built for the high boost). How bad do you think the lag time will be?

I want the turbo to make at least 500rwhp on the 346. I come close to that right now with my nitrous. I am getting away from nitrous. I have no idea what the HP will be on the 346 with this turbo. Got any ideas on that? It makes 375 right now without the nitrous (see sign below).

Hope someone has some experience with this kind of thing and can leave some feedback on what I can expect to see.

Thanks.

Why? Please give me the reasons. If there is something wrong with the turbonetics, I want to know. If I can get the same thing for less money, I want to know that too.

I know my friend has two super 76s on his car and they have worked great for him. He puts alot of street miles on his car and he has never had a problem with them.

Im willing to bet that 10-15 psi is way way too much boost unless you keep ping away (good fvcking lot on pump gas)... but you would make well well WELL over the 500 mark with that much boost if the motor took the abuse... I hae read abotu stock LS1 bottom ends making 600 hp... but you can detonate or the thing is gone.

I might be wrong, but I think the trick is going to be intercooling. It might take methonal injection as well to insure max timing with no detionation. I do not plan on making that much power on the 346. I am only going to shoot for 10 psi and pray for at least 500rwhp with that. The 408 is built for high boost. Its only 8.5:1 compression and will be cam'd different. Thats the one the 15 to 20 psi will be put on.

I was talking to my Turbonetics dealer, he said Turbonetics thinks I might have to replace the tubine housing once I put the 408 in it. They think the one they speced for the me might chock the engine off a lottle once I hit 7000rpm. We will just have to wait and see.

I hope everything gets here before next weekend so I can start installing the system!

nice rule of thumb....run less timing and more boost.

Not to thread jack, but I just picked up an unused Turbonetics super T-76 last weekend . I was wondering how this compares to the Precision T-76gts. I had thoughts on selling my super T-76 and getting a T-76gts. It seems the GTS makes a little more power due the turbine wheel. Any other thoughts?

The PT76gts has put out 976rwhp (or about that not sure of the numbers exactly) on a 355 lt1.
if it was me id get precision as they are less expensive then turbonetics and perform better.

everything done right... the 346 should take 10 psi..... but never more (i wouldn't imagine)... and for how long is debatable..

I can only say from experience that I bougth a garrett for my 92 talon and buddy first had a garrett no problems then bought a turbonetics and it lasted a few weeks.excessive shaft play..piece of junk. And yes he did break it in right and have proper cooling to it.He upgraded to a holeset and its working good.I also read of several ,too many other guys with turbonetics screwing up.

They all have problems. Tnetics, garrett, holset...etc. We get all of them here broken all the time.
