Default Which power adder for my 408?

I know I won't be able to wait till next year to put a blower or turbo on my truck. I've gotten some prices on the procharger f-1c and I'm shocked at how much less they cost than a turbo. The choices are Procharger F-1C OR Livernois 76mm turbo

-Which is going to give me the best driveability on the street?

-Which will make the most power?

-Which will give me the best ET?

IMO, In that big-azz truck you'll need all the torque you can get.
That pretty much means your normal centrifugal blower is about the poorest bet for you.
A blower more of the positive displacement type, or whipple style should be a good match... whatever will make max boost and torque instantly.
A bottle would also be a good match IMO.

Turbo will give you tons of torque on the 408.

hmm, i love the fact that the livernois kit is complete and i won't have to deal with belts slipping and burning up. I was told that the 76mm turbo is too small. Does that make sense?

Also, that kit is over $1000 more than the procharger. tough call.

You know how it goes, money spent right the first time saves money in the long run. Really, turbo is the only way to go. The $1000 savings isn't worth it if your not happy.

Just be careful with livernois. My friend ordered a kit for his escalade, but it arrived missing several pieces, one of which was the turbo. Livernois tried to blame UPS, but the shipping weight on the box was 50lbs lighter than what the kit is supposed to weigh. Long story short, eventually livernois sent most of the missing pieces, but it took forever.

so i see lots of votes for the turbo, but, why did Parish8 have to run nitrous also with his turbo setup? was that just to get a better 60' or is it really gonna have that much lag?

it depends on how much horsepower you want to make.

pick a turbo that can make slightly more hp (crank) than you ever plan on making.

a 76 isnt too small if you want to make 750rwhp or so.

that's exactly how much power i was hoping to make. I'm under the impression I will get that power from the F1C or the 76mm turbo. The 88mm seems way too big and Parish said his had a noticable difference in lag over the 76mm. I don't want that. Lag sucks.

The new 3.3L Whipple gets my vote. On Svt performance an 03 Cobra with a 5.0 Shortblock made 820 hp and tq to the wheels untuned. Pretty damn impressive and you cant beat the torque curve of a twin screw either. To be honest im thinking of selling my SS to buy an 03 Cobra just to put a Whipple on it.

yeah, i've thought about the 3.3L whipple. i'm waiting to see whit1's results. i got a quote from starr performance and it was gonna be $9000+++

that's over double the cost of the procharger. hopefully when whipple finally releases the kit it won't be that much.

We got our Whipple in a couple weeks ago. You will need the heat exchanger, pump, lines, and fittings for the intercooler. The rear 90mm intake flange will need a elbow fabbed to clear the firewall. Dustin has the cnc flange now. You just need to make the piping. The drivesnout, tensioner, and 6 rib accessory brackets are all on the money. Its one hell of a blower sitting on top of a ls1. I think the cost was $5800 so figure on about $1000 more for eveything else you need. I'lll post pics tomorrow.

For a Truck i would go with a Turbo because it will make better midrange TQ. On the other hand The advantages of running the F1C would be cheaper and easier to boost up if u need more power. U wont need to change the head unit if u want more power. F1C with the right combo will be a monster. F1C should give your 750rwhp and have another 150rwhp left if needed.

Turbos make a lot of heat, blowers have belts that slip or get eaten up. (unless you run a cog belt, which has issues when you need to lift all at once) Turbos are stealthy, blowers tend to be in your face. BOTH will get you where you want to be.

I don't see this as a bad choice either way. What made my decison was the bling factor. I take my car to shows & turbos tend to be an uglier setup unless you spend a LOT of money. But you can also setup a turbo so you can adjust the boost while you're driving.
