How quick are PT-88 guys running?
#22
Jose, I am building a 402 turbo street car and have a similar question. Will a PT-88 flow enough for about 15psi or the max psi I can push it to on pump gas? This is NOT a drag car by any means although I want to get a respectable low 10 or high 9 out of it a few times.
It will primarily be a street car so I've been thinking the PT-88 would be the best for me and was hoping you could give your opinion...I'm looking for 700ish rwhp on 93 octane...
Sorry Nineball...not trying to jack the thread...

I got your PM a few days ago Tony, but I see this thread is addressing most of your questions.
Reason folks do a PT88 T4 is for packaging reasons. It's not as big as my GT 47-88, which is quite massive.
A PT88 T4 will make about 1200 crank, mine is rated for 1400-1500 crank.
If you stay T4, you should research running the biggest A/R housing you can to minimize the backpressure with a single turbo setup. Backpressure occurs when you have too small a hole to push out all the air...
That being said, very few folks have maxed out any sort of 88mm turbo on the site.
Mike Brown runs an Innovative 88mm T6 flange turbo and he's running pretty good. My guess is that my turbo is the same size as his overall.
If you plan to try to run low 8's, you will need big injectors too, like 160's. I think you need to think about how fast you plan to go, and whether you plan to race the car alot.

And you can swap to a T6 housing, The PT88 T6 setup will no doubt make more power than you might be comfortable driving.
My turbo and exhaust housing were a shipped weight of 68 lbs.

You could always try an S88. It smaller in size then a GT47-88, but bigger then a PT88. Main reason why we built the units. Its T6 flanged and uses a 5" DP as well like the GT47, but uses a compressor cover similar to the GT42.

I think I'll just put this stuff together as-is for now. I have 96# injectors coming, as my original goals were around ~1000 rwhp. High 8s would be fun, and I probably wouldn't break as much stuff. I'd like to be able to race almost weekly, with a reliable car.
smokin, I have a A/A FMIC, rated at 1000 or so HP. 3" inlet/outlet. If I decide to upgrade later, it will be an A/W IC.

A couple friends of mine build turbo stangs and one just moved to houston. He's been doing it for years and is building a twin 76mm setup on his fox for next season. He had a 88mm setup that went well into the 9's. If you want me to see if he can help ya out send me a pm, he's a cool guy.
