Default Upgraded ICs for Incon kit?

I have the Stage II Incon kit, and I was curious what people have done to upgrade their intercoolers. I'd prefer not to upgrade to a front-mount, but I guess anything is possible. Has anyone replaced their incon intercoolers with something else, still using the kit's original location? I'd like to keep those suckers hidden away still .

Out of curiosity, how much is too much for the twin incon ICs? 16psi, correct?

monitor IATs and see where they are at. You can have you some intercoolers made that are a little taller and thicker

I'm also very interested in this. Looking for something that would keep things cool for road racing.

Also curious, because I'd be interested in getting a Stage 2 kit if anyone ever wanted to get rid of one...

How much would the upgrade cost and would it be worth it? cablebandit: from what I understand you still have the intercoolers that came with the kit.. what are your IATs from any psi you've run?? Gimme #s you got... I love to read about incon setups. I read your thread about how much meth cools stuff down. Very cool, but I wouldn't run meth if I ever got a hold of a kit.

How much room do you have to expand, you think? I'd be interested in keeping my setup reliable, so I'd bump for the upgrade if it kept the charge cooler, ya know?

another question.. what do you do when you're not running meth? turn down the psi to what?

The incon stage II is just the base kit with a piggy back computer, which most people ditched after real tuning solutions became available. Stage III was the bigger turbos.

Once you install meth there is no reason to run without it. A tank lasts a good amount of time and it is the safest way to run boost.

If you really want an incon kit...buy mine - and I'll throw the car in as well!

Jacque

I've got an Incon setup but haven't installed it as of yet. I've been pondering the same question myself. I have been looking at what I can cut out and improve on the kit. Mostly having to do with all the duct work.

You might want to call up Stenod Performance (sponsor --->) and speak to Harlan. IIRC he went with a single intercooler but I don't know the manufacturer, dimensions or improvements/gains if any.

15-17 psi...IAT start at 90 degrees...end at 189 deg at end of run. I dumped mine and running straight methanol injection

Ah. I thought the piggyback still had a use. I didn't know people ditched it... Knowing that, I'd be in the market for a Stage I, then I'd probably look around to see who would be willing to upgrade my turbos to GTBB-37s..

Anyways... I'm off-topic. sorry.

Speaking of the stage III turbos. I forgot to tell you all that I upgraded the turbos. Looks like I will be getting some bigger intercoolers installed eventually. I did not have any knock problems, but my tune is very conservative with 12 pounds of boost. All internals will be forged before the fall. I am just trying to keep my setup reliable and safe. I should've thought twice before posting! The turbos move more air; therefore, the intercoolers will not be cooling the charge as well as it should be.

Thank you all for your help.

What upgraded turbos are you running?

Edit: Sorry, I turned off sigs and avatars. Didn't see you had them listed.

P.S. where did you get them from?

A company in Texas called ForcedPerformance. I am not sure the cost. To be honest, I didn't pay for the upgrade, like most other things on my car.

I'd spray meth if you want to lower your IAT's. Meth works great if it's setup properly.

I've been toying with the idea of swapping out to GT30-71R's. Supposedly they fit onto the same flange as the GT2535's. I guess we'll find out soon.

Post up when/if you do. I'm interested as well.

More than likely when the kit is ready to go on I'll be calling Jose to see what my options are.

Keep us posted on the GT30-71R turbos with the incon kit. I've heard there might not be enough, but I don't know for sure.

Here's a thought I've had for awhile.....

Has anyone tried to go A2W on the incon kit? I remember harlan had two Air to Water intercoolers mounted in the incon locations on his old TT kit he went 8.2X on. Might be a better solution for having them mounted in those locations if you don't want to hack up your facia. And I'm sure the rise IAT's would be quite reduced, since water is a great regulator of temperature, and does not change temp as quickly as air.

Newbie question... What's the scuff about not wanting to go A2W? How much more maintenance is there required with A2W, as opposed to none with A2A.

A2A is simpler overall, takes up less space at times, doesn't require a pump, and is lighter in weight. However A2W has the capability to cool the charge better.
