Default ???'s about custom turbo set up?

hey guys im 16 and pretty new to the fi scene, but im awating shipment on my 98 z28, the motor has all forged internals and a polished crank, patriot stage 2 heads and ttp's equalizer cam with full valvetrain. also ls6 oil pump, ported throttle body, lid, long tubes, a moser 9", and a spec 5 clutch, yada yada yada. so the cars built strong

well heads and cam unfortanetly isnt goin to cut it for me. so im wanting to build a custom/budget turbo kit for it because i just bought the car and have no money to buy a regular kit.

so i already know that im goin to swap the cam out because it s to big, and probably go with the tr224 (so what i hear) but do i need better heads?

and i know im goin to run 5.3 manifolds, where should i look to get hot parts for cheap?

and since im a noob what else should i buy to get this thing runnin right?

please help a youngster out! im on a tight budget so cheap is the main thing!

Well you could try this for starters. https://ls1tech.com/forums//showthread.php?t=480333
But you will still have a long way to go. Believe me, I am going the same direction with the same hot parts (Phamspeed) and I'm probably only 2/3 the way there. When you read on this board that budget and turbo don't belong in the same post they aren't lying. It really adds up and there are so many little things that always gets overlooked when trying to figure out what you need. Do alot of searching and reading and you will learn alot.

id go the truck manifold route, its basically flipped truck manifolds with a crossover pipe. Its fit a few 88's. You'd have to make your own kit, and it you can not have AC with this kit. You could prob get away with about about 6k including everything you'd need. That would be 1000 for hot parts, 1500 for turbo, 600 for BOV and WG, 1000 for intercooler and cold side, another 1000 for fuel, and 1000 for tuning, and 1000 misc(little low there, alternator relocation, fans, gaskets, such). Plus sell the compressor and all of the AC stuff for 500 or so. Iono thats prob the cheapest option. Where in Texas are you from?(just a side note because i know a kid with that last name and would like to see this car)

Just for the future I'd say leave your age out of your posts and just say your new to the concept. People will be likely to side track and bitch about your age if you give them the chance.

Anyway onto the meaty portion:
You want something to drop your CR, so the 6.0L heads or the Lq4/9 heads if you want something OEM. If not contact any of our sponsors and ask them for something in your price range.

And just a heads up, budget and FI don't go togeather. Also it seems like your pretty well off on all your other parts, it is the wrong time to cheap out on parts when dealing with FI. A turbo will stress everything on the car, so having the cheapest parts is a bad idea. Put the right parts in the car so you don't have to do it again.

mendoza you need to drop the compression lol. not rasie it. The way to do that is to buy larger dish pistons or heads with a bigger combustion chamber, Iono the exact numbers but i think the LQ9(6.0l heads) are in the 70-80cc range, LS1 243 castings are in the 65-70 range and LS6 heads are high 50's. Not sure on theses numbers exactly so ill have to go looking.
