How hard is it to change the pulley?

Default How hard is it to change the pulley?

I need to change the pulley on a Powerdyne supercharger and I was trying to figure out what's involved in holding the pulley while you try to loosen the mounting bolt. Is there a special tool or holder needed?

Crack the nut with the belt still on and tight. That should stop the wheel from turning. If that doesn't work, get a strap wrench that gets tighter as you apply pressure. They are cheap and work on stuff like that. If the pulley had a little anti-sieze put on it like it should before being put on, you should be able to pull it off by hand. If not, you can use a universal pulley pulley but put a rag behind the tangs so it doesn't scratch up the pulley. When you put the pulley back on add a little anti-sieze.

when i changed my procharger pulley i had to heat the pulley up pretty good with a torch and then it slid right off the blower no problem.

I used medium strength Loc-Tite on my pulley bolt, personally.

At 6800 RPMs, it would suck to come loose

improvised saw blade... but yea, seems like itd be jsu the same as a power steering pully or crank pulley, maybe even easier..

Which is why I question why some people advise on using anti-seize?

I'm just talking about breaking the bolt loose to begin with. The supercharger is not on the car so I have no good way of holding the pulley tight other than clamping it somehow.

Use a strap wrench then. Or if you have an old 6-rib belt laying around that you don't care about, wrap it around the pulley and clamp a pair of visegrips on it, pinching the circle tight. Crack that nut!
