Default Just bought a turbo!

Ok, I just bought an STS turbo kit, *gotta love that financing plan*, and it'll be here in a few weeks, now my question is this. I have already ordered 42lb injectors and a racetronix fuel pump kit for the lt1 fbody off thunder racing. What i want to know is whether my setup *heads/cam* will create too much compression? Should I get a bigger head gasket to decrease the compression ratio, as it's already high with the lt4 kit. What should I do guys, I don't want to skimp on the kit or parts, so please recommend what would be best. thanks

What I would do is get a set of heads (if available) that will knock the compression down. It depends on what sts kit you purchased also. If you're running more than 5# without an intercooler, I would STRONGLY recommend meth injection. Your hotcam will bleed off boost and is not the MOST efficient for a rear-setup (believe me, I have a hotcam too). You can run a thicker head gasket, but it won't drop the compression as much as you will need to run a higher boost setting. Make sure you don't boost without a good tune, or your motor'll end up like mine. Hope this helps man. Congrats on the new kit!

Ok, after I did my Lt4 conversion, I sold my lt1 heads/intake . I'm most likely going to get a thicker head gasket and see if I can get some porting work done to my LT4 castings. I bought the basic kit lol. I also heard that a cam with a higher LSA will be better when running forced induction, like 113+, is this true? I'll be getting a good tune no doubt! I've heard from many sources including STS to not run the system hard at all until I've gotten a full tune, so you can bet I'm not going to skimp on a tune! Thanks for the help and advice again!

about the financing- I believe it was 10% down initially, I put down 1k and I'm making smaller payments over the course of about 1.5-2 years Check out sts' website, there's a lot of information about it there!

What intrest rate did you get ?

My bank offers a revolving line of credit @ 10% for $4,000, which works for getting a kit like a STS - but be warned if you buy the kit financed up front you may be strapped for cash getting the fuel, tuning, drivetrain, etc and have to work on paying off your debit while buying other parts.

i thought of that and thats why i loaded up the paypal account before I bought the turbo for fuel system accessories etc. Also, does anyone know how to decrease compression with my lt4 heads? whats the best way without touching the pistons?

Man, that blows, literally. =) Yes, less "valve overlap" will make your turbo spool quicker, basically making it run more efficiently. The low LSA leaves too much overlap which will bleed off boost, or let exhaust pass back into the cylinder and contaminate the charge, which may cause detonation. Personally, I may end up going with the LS6 cam, or the MTI stealth II, something with a high LSA and less rumpity rump to spool my "big" T70 out back. Let me know what you decide to do man, good luck!
