just wanted to give an update.....i checked the scan gauge today when under boost and i was correct it definitely is reading boost and i mean fluctuating boost not just jumping to a number....ie went from -3 to 0 to .3psi to .6psi etc.

We've been running without a boost reference for years. MAF sensors are good like that

Now if you're going to a SD tune or custom OS, etc then yes you need the sensor.

im only base tuned so only like a psi or so.Im trying to baby the car.Does this mean that the car itself is reading boost because the scan gauge is taken directly from the OBD2 port?

When tuning, eventually you will see the readings maxing out. usually you can get a small ammount of boost readings and tuning without replacing the map sensor. I am only running 5.6lbs of boost and on HP Tuners was maxing out. I purchased the 2 bar os upgrade and a 2 bar sensor. Doing an SD tune (mafless).

They sure do. That's what I run on my Syclone, one thing to note is that there is a new part number for the new model TTA 3 bar map. If you get it from GM partsdirect they tell you that you need to buy a pigtail that goes with it, in my application I didn't need the new pigtail. It's something to check into if you are going to get the TTA 3 Bar. For all I know it could be the same exact 3 bar that is used on the Cobalt's.

ok so wait. with EFI LIVE i need to upgrade to the Custom OS to take advantage of the 2 bar map sensor? even though I'll be keeping the MAF?

also what table do i adjust to get the new 2 bar MAP sensor back down to read 100kPA at the run position?

You can't just swap a 2 or 3 bar map sensor onto your car, and then assume it will work with the regular HPT or EFI L setups. You have to get their custom packages.

Some of the special programming deals with modifying the pcm, since it's not going to see the stock 1 bar map sensor anymore. When you start the car, it looks for several parameters. Stuff like that is why you should do your homework.

With my BS3 I run the TTA map sensor.

your not helping me any. I have done my homework, the fine details have not been told to me nor have I read them yet.

can the turbo run @5psi with the MAF and the 1 bar MAP sensor and be safe

OR do I need to install a 2 bar MAP sensor and recalibrate it so it read 101kPA at the run position. (will that not work?)

OR do I need to install the 2 bar MAP and get the EFI LIVE custom os?
when you upgrade to the custom OS does it just allow the VE table in the tune to go above 101kPa or does it allow the computer in closed loop to see values above 101kPA and the MAF and other tables work with it?

"can the turbo run @5psi with the MAF and the 1 bar MAP sensor and be safe"

Yes, most typical way to tune for 5psi...not the only way, but most typical for low boost like 5psi....I'm doing it at 16psi.

"OR do I need to install a 2 bar MAP sensor and recalibrate it so it read 101kPA at the run position. (will that not work?)"

No, this will not work well.

"OR do I need to install the 2 bar MAP and get the EFI LIVE custom os?"

This is another way to skin the cat....not as easy as a maf tune and 5psi....but arguably better if you want to take the boost higher.....probably better if you want multiple boost levels programmed into a boost controller.

thank you. I was also told that I may need to get a bigger MAF as it will allow for alittle higher breathing room on the top end to get higher than 512 g/s (stock MAF max flow).

well 2 bar MAP sensor for sale
