Yes...It's the only way that your computer will recognize that there is boost introduced...

Unless you have the EFILive OS that's setup for a multibar sensor, all you'll be doing is creating headaches for yourself.

We've been running without a boost reference for years. MAF sensors are good like that

Now if you're going to a SD tune or custom OS, etc then yes you need the sensor.

i was gonna say what Harlan said....i was under the impression the stock map sensor was a 2 bar and was good til 1 bar of boost....on my aeroforce scan gauge it says that it should only read boost if the car came factory equipped with a turbo....well when i set it on manifold pressure it read boost so i dont see what the problem is unless you want to run more boost than that.

Stock sensor would be 1 bar absolute. 0kpa - 100kpa with 100kpa being atmospheric pressure.

2 bar is 0-200kpa ( 1 bar positive pressure )
3 bar 0-300kpa ( 2 bar positive pressure )

Some sensors may have a little lee-way on those numbers.

Ive heard the factory Honda sensor will still read up to 9psi positive pressure

Early Subarus for example only read about 0-214Kpa.

Does your ecu actually recognise everything in the range 100kpa-200kpa ???

Strictly speaking the voltage output will simply flatline once beyond its range.

Some people just tune around it for their maximum boost. SO it would matter if the engine had 1.2 bar or 1.9 bar, the fuel/ign settings would be the same, which is far from ideal, but still functional.
The pcm doesnt actually know the difference.

Same way when the MAF flow limit is exceeded. Some people just tune around it.

I dont know if LS1's are different from LT1's as far as MAP sensors go, but what is your max MAP reading @ WOT? If its 100kPa and its the stock table, then 100kpa = 0 gauge psi = 1 bar. A 2 bar map = 0-100KPA (vaccuum to 0psi gauge pressure) + 100KPA - 200KPA (0psi gauge - 14.5psi gauge). Check your tables that reference MAP radings and see if the cell is 100KPA for WOT. If it is and you have not modified the scaling of the table then that indicates the max reading is 0 psi gauge or 1 bar.

WOT is a no no til i go tune next friday.i was just saying that if the stock ECU isnt supposed to be able to read boost, then why is my scan gauge which connects directly to the OBD2 port reading positive pressure when i go up to 2psi,which is the most boost i wanna go to until i get my full tune.Ive got a very safe base tune so i know it'd be ok but why chance it.doesnt make sense to me.im going to take the car out tomorrow with a friend and have him note the different values its giving for each sensor

You dont have to go WOT, what I am saying is if you have tuning softare and can look at timing tables, any tabls that use MAP, see what the max MAP reading is on the table. Example, for my timing table the max KPA column is 100 (0 gauge pressure).

When you say your scan gauge sees 2psi...what is the actual output? Meaning, does it say "2 psi" on the screen?
