Default sts idea, interesting...

Ive been thinking a idea for the rear mounted poeple, here we go, Now on the sts kit for the intake pipe its cut into looks like 2-3 sections where there are joints and need to be clamped, this is where there is possible leaks and it looks like there are atleast 5 spots where there is a clamp. well I was thinking to reduce any, and have absolutely no leaks, why not use a custom fabbed exhaust pipe and have it 1 solid pipe all the way till it reaches by the motor, then have another pipe to finish it to the intake manifold. so then there will be 1 place where youll need a clamp, and instead of clamping why not weld, since well be using ehxuast pipe anyway, heres the pic from there site... http://ststurbo.com/ls1_installation_pics ... just an idea for though those who have leak problems, I know having the turbo in back will ampifly a leak and make low boost, its more important for rear mout... any comments

That's what I did on mine, that's why I custom built my own turbo kit and got rid of any flaws I saw possible. That's all I need is to have the charge pipe blow off and ran over doing 100+mph. Not saying it would happen, but it COULD. I have mine rubber mounted to the frame in 2 spots, and it is bent up against the bottom of the car so it doesn't drag or really isn't seen/noticed looking at the car from the outside. I have it run from the intercooler on the drivers side up against the k member, where the lower a arm pivots, rubber mounted, then up under the body all the way back to where the rest of the frame resumes, again rubber mounted... and with a hook under the rear end so when the car is raised up the rear end sits just above the charge pipe, but it doesn't rub when going over bumps, etc. and it attaches to the compressor side of the turbo, so only 2 couplers, turbo to to charge, charge to intercooler, then another piece that comes from the other side of the intercooler to the front of the MAF/TB, and on that pipe is where the megasonic BOV is. I had to cut my radiator support in a U for the pipe to get in there and not rattle around and get a straight shot into the front of the motor.

Wish I did, the night I got the car finished and on the road, it was wrecked b ya drunk driver. Waited months to get it back, the body shop disconnected the 12v to the scavenge pump and ran the car because they "didn't want the battery to die" and it let oil pool in the turbo and blow past the compressor seals and up the charge pipe, through the motor, and let it knock itself to death under boost. Needless to say, the motor murdered itself shortly thereafter, before I got to do anything to it for the most part. I will be taking pictures of it once I get the new motor together and installed in the car. Wish I had some pics =(.

Yeah, we tried to claim against the body shop, but it was their word against ours, no "physical evidence". The DA's office is trying to put it on the guy that hit me now, but $50/month toward $9800 worth of damage, is gonna take a VERY long time to get. The 408 might be going out the window too, the woman is bitching at me telling me I already have a drag car and I don't need something THAT fast... I'll end up with a 383 instead, but whatever, I'll save 112lbs or whatever vs the cast block... I can't complain much... I was wanting the T76, 88 is what I want to put on the 464 pontiac in my 67. Turbo's are very addicting, I think I'll be perfectly fine with a 383 and 15 or so pounds of boost, can't get TOO greedy! =)

haha. i think you should sell the wife and get the 408 + 88!

thats a b!tch about the body shop! i would have been down there straight away looking for blood! and its the same over here! you get some scummy g!t mess your stuff up or steal something and then you get nothing back! the guys over here get a few hour 'comunity service' (sweeping the streets or somehting like that) and then they are let off to go and do it agian!

HAHAHA she told me... her words... "You don't have your priorities right... we have a wedding to pay for, we need a new bed, we need a new house, I need a new car, and you're out playing mechanic on a car you DONT drive every day, you have your ZR2." I was thinking to myself "keep saving for that wedding, I'll tell you no, and I'll take the cash that we saved and put it into the car, but... I sure would love that tax break, LOL. I'll be okay with the 383, if I get saved up for that 383, the 408 isn't THAT far from the 383, might be able to pull it off. =)
