Eagle still makes good stuff... Mahle or Diamond seem to be the piston of choice... get them for over $500, real nice pieces along with their rings. Eagle stroker cranks for about $800 or so. Important part is having the block machined CORRECTLY, IE - torque plates on the decks to properly hone the cylinders to the correct size. These things are bad enough about oil burning, don't need it to get any worse, that is why I want to have a sponsor do it, and they are more than willing to help you with your combo.

LME doesn't list any ballpark prices, not sure why they don't advertise any basic packages for shortblocks/longblocks like the other sponsors. $2799 is a pretty fair price for a good shortblock built for the kind of boost I'm looking at running, in my opinion, without a core charge.

if i build it myself, im going to have the machine work done by a local shop that does work for a LOT of the fast cars around here (ls1s included) but their main customer base is the 6-7 second NMRA cars.

what im lookin for is a set of good flat top forged pistons (stock bore or maybe .005 over), forged h beam stock length rods and ill reuse a stock crank. supposedly theres a local guy that can get a great deal on ls2 blocks so i might be looking at that first. will the stock truck crank fit an ls2 block?

I have no idea if the cranks are different, I really doubt they are, I know the knock sensors are different on those, and something with the timing was different, don't quote me though...

Hey, how much is shipping to the bay area? I don't even know where LME is located out of. Let me know how the new engine works out for you, I'm curious to find out.

Lingenfelter's has stock rods, not forged...
Texas Speed's is $2799 - no core =( That was the one I was looking at buying, can't beat the price. Thanks for sharing that with us.

The old saying 'pay me now or pay be later' about sums it up. Trying to save $1,000 on a forged motor by using junk parts or stock rods just doesn't make any sense.
