Bypass valve on automatic?

Default Bypass valve on automatic?

Procharged Lt1 8 lbs with Th400.. Do I have to run the bypass valve? I did a search and found several places that say no. Is this true? Thanks in advance

I know a lot of the Turbo Buick guys don't run BOVs.

Yes you really do. When you let off the throttle the air has to go somewhere. With no bypass it will overrun your throttle, blow off a tube, expand an intercooler tank, or exit through the inlet of the blower (and possibly be re-read by the maf). When a large volume of air flow backwards through the compressor it will try to change its direction of rotation. That's not a happy situation. Its very important for an automatic because the engine rpm doesn't just drop back to idle on decel - no clutch.

Im wondering if my wimpy looking stock procharger bypass/bov whatever it is, wil handle a high boost situation with an automatic? Would that be something i hsould be looking at upgrading?

It depends on how much boost you are planning on running. We have used the newer standard Proflow valve at 14 to 16 psi, with no apparent problems. Bob
