I'm using nearly stock 317s with stainless Ferrea valves, stock size, 5 angle valve job, and the seats blanded to the valve pockets. Comp 918s

I spent like 3k on Absolute blah blah blahs.. fine heads, but Id say start with plain 6.0's , and as Nasty says..splurge on valves (I have **** and incolnel) and the right springs for the job (dont need a high lift cam... so maybe 978's?)
Ported and polished are a bonus.

I'd be more than happy with 700rwhp on pump gas. This car will be a daily driven car but I don't mind it being nasty. I'd prefer spinning the motor no higher than 7k. So, what do you all think of a low compression forged 346 or 383? The only advantage I could see in the LS2 shortblock would be that I could order it with ARP everything and my car wouldn't have nearly as much down time with that route. I will probably start with some worked over 6.0l heads as I am on a budget to start with but could upgrade down the road.

If your going to spend the coin on a 383 you might as well do a 408. Your not really saving any money there. Remember a forged crank is usually around a $1k difference in price.

It's not like you are better off going bigger. bigger, bigger... cuz you will have to do the same with the turbo and it's piping... It's not a blower, you need to figure out your turbo piping and unit options before picking a displacement, at least to some extent.

I agree 110%. I was just saying that pricewise, if your going to go for a 383 you might as well go with a 408. With both your probably going to want a bigger turbo, bigger IC, bigger fuel system, etc.

I personally would stick with a 346 or iron 370.

id stay away from the iron 370 if ya planto race it.... i got it but wish i didnt..... its an extra 90lbs on the nose of the car...... hard to get rid of..... LS2 alum. 370........ or a 346. You have to think about back pressure also.

But then you gotta buy all the fancy LS2 stuff to make it work, whereas a iron block is plug and play. You can spend the $ you saved on going aluminum and get a lighteweight K member and other components up front. All depends on what you want to do and how much $ you have to throw at this.

Personally i dont wanna get tooo crazy $ wise, so ill take the strength of the iron block, which i can upgrade later and never have to worry about, and take the $ i saved and buy lightweight frontend parts.

believe me been there doen that..... there is no crazt Expensive parts to make it work... there cheap and easy.....
The ligth weight K-Member and A-Arms with skinnies barely make up the weight differnce.... plus if you all ready have lowering springs or what not up front they have to go becaue the extra weight there werent designed for will make the front of the car to low... unless u have adj. shocks up front.
