The LT1s are actually harder to work on, here are a few of my gripes with the LT1

Oil pan is a bitch to mess around with, also the timing chain cover which involves lowering the oil pan.
Intake manifold and valley cover are one piece
Distance between exhaust ports isn't equal, made it a little harder to make LT1 headers.
LT1 oval throttle body required us to get a oval to round elbo piece
Harder to setup aftermarket engine managment, requires pickup wheel and possibly more modifications, for BigStuff3 anyway.

Good things about the lt1
You can get the lifters out without pulling the heads
I like the oil pump a lot better
Pretty much all parts are cheaper, we built a forged LT1 for a fraction of what my forged LS1 cost.
i was searching about turboing a LT1 and found this thread.

i was wondering if you could explain little more about some of the things you posted ( as i am a LT1/LS1 noob... current honda owner, looking to switch over )

harder to work on like there is no roon in the engine caompartment?

whats wrong with the oil pan?

unequal exhaust ports, does that mean flipped headers can not be used?

thanks in advance for the help

Did you ever get your LT1 turbocharged?

I have a LD465 turbo from an old M35A2C "duece and a half" that is new that I was pondering trying to use on my LT1 to give it some boost.

The turbo was rpm boost limited, no wastegate, but that can be added. The turbo is smaller size, but good for 3600 rpm on a 465 CID multifuel engine (gas, kerosene, diesel, etc).

Might be a nice basic design. I have a 94 Fleetwood LT1.
