Hmm good question. I know we have some measurements written down from before and after hood temps from adding the covers. Reduced the hood temp down 200 degs at the surface above the turbo.

Can anyone put me at ease about the oil temps getting to high with a turbo blanket? I have seen what happens when engine oil gets to hot.

Engine oil temps will be fine....just make sure when you drive a turbo car hard to let it idle down and use synthetic. I get nasty turbos here all the time with layers of burnt regular oil that ends up like tar....ugghh

Ok cool, just wanted to make sure.

Do you think I should have any trouble fitting the blanket over the turbo with 1 inch of clearence from the radiator?

Thanks, that makes me feel better. I would like to decrease temps under the hood and keep the heat away from other stuff, but not at the expense of turning my oil into tar

Any rule of thumb how long to let a turbo idle to cool down? On our diesel truck I just watched the EGT, but don't have that on the TA.

i think the bet way is to take itsteady on the lastcple of mile on a stret car. this way you get good airflow through the engine and turbo, with little load! i think a major problem that (the import guys have had anyway) is shutting the engine, and therefore oil, whilest the trubo is still spinning! this mean the oil in the turbo justy gets cooking while the thing is still spinning!

i dont think a turbo blanket would effect the oil, infact it might help reduce as it will stop some of th radiating heat from the hot side!

thanks Chris.

that way I dont have to worry about having the blanket not fit between the turbo and the radiator.

If you want information regarding it, pm me.

I would not think a coating would be as affective as the blanket. Basing this on my observations of coated headers versus headers that have been wrapped.

From what the guy told me, hes only charging me 200 bucks to coat both manifolds, and its supposed to be good enough to put your hand on it without burning it.
