Default Crank pin drill bit

For anyone that has tried to pin their forged crank and can't seem to find a drill bit that will work. This bit worked with the ATI side pinning kit.

I had to get a carbide drill bit when I drilled my Eagle crank

Normal HSS steel bits barely made a mark.

The kit ranges in price from about $115 to $130. Buy from your sponsors on this board and support help support it.

In a F-body you won't need an angle drill. In a corvette you will need it, unless the motor is are out.

The kit is highly recommended when the crank pulley has been removed for any purpose. I have seen pulleys come off on a stock car to a highly modded car.

Just adding this for anyone who stumbles on this thread. I went through a couple of drill bits and countless curse words before I got this done on my eagle crank. I was only able to find a carbide tipped bit, not full carbide (those bits were like $80 and no one local to me had one). The trick is a low speed, high torque drill, cutting oil, and pressure. When I say cutting oil I mean real cutting oil, not motor oil, tranny fluid, whale spooge, etc, etc. I also found it at Lowes. Drill for about 45 seconds to a minute at a time. Stop, blow out the bits with an air nozzle, relube with some more cutting oil. Press hard. Stop and measure often. The instructions from ATI say no deeper than .800 deep. The dowel is .750.

This is true. I have had 2 come off. Pinned mine back in the spring.
