Default lifted a 6.0 head need info

I lifted the head on the driver side. When we went to take the head off the nuts that held it down seem too lose. We got the off using a 3/8 inch ratchet. When we took off the pass. side we had to use a braker bar to get those nuts off. Is it just because I lifted the one head or was it because the head was not tightened down it the first place.

i would guess not tightened. I have lifted a head repeatedly...cracked blocks etc and the bolts are still always tight.

You lifted a head? What were the conditions? What was the cause? Do you know yet?

ok I blew out the head gasket. First pass at the track after the motor was built. I was probably going off the rev limiter off the line but not going down the track.

What hp level are you making with that set up? I would run 100 octane, at least. Pushing head gaskets suck.

Ya I think it was just too much timing for pump gas. I mean I had about 18 degrees of timing on the pump gas and went up to 23 degrees @ 11psi on pure race gas. Not a mix. It ran fine. But for pump gas IMHO thats a little too much.

22 degrees of timing on pump gas? I've seen folks post running 14-18 degrees of timing.

I'd take it down to 18 at least, run more when u have 100 or over...but not much more. really timing isn't a HUGE factor in making HP boosted motors. better safe than sorry, but I guess u just found that out. sorry for ur luck.

Um I gained 36 hp with two degrees of timing Went from 21 to 23 to see what it would do since my power curve looked a little ruff. Put the smoothing on winpep to zero, And it helped it out a ton.

now i could be way off as he hasnt posted back but did anyone think that he wasnt planning on running 20psi on pump...ie he had a problem controlling boost?i hit 20psi on pump a while back and probably would have had head gasket issue if i hadnt blown the maf off the car which shut the car off

Car was tuned at 20 psi on pump gas. I have an electroinc boost controller that was set at 20. Now that does not mean the car did not see more then that though when I was at the track and it blew out the head gasket.

I would also like to know why the head stud nuts were so loose when we took them off. Has anyone else had this happen after they blew a head gasket.
