Default Universal Intercooler Piping

Has anyone used the universal intercooler piping that they sell on ebay? I'm going to be mounting a TRT intercooler and I really don't want to pay the $550 they want for the piping. If anyone else has tried this please share your experiance with it.

You can do it for less absolutely, but that does include all the silicone, transition 90, step hoses, etc., stainless t-bolt clamps, bov flange tig welded on, bracket made so there is no guess work, & bead rolled pipe.

Oh yeah from what I have read your kit is compelte and has super nice pieces and I will probably wind up getting it from you. I just want to get some opinions from some people who have done it themselves. I'm sending you a pm right now also.

I bought the 3" alum kit and had to tig some of the pipes and then grind down the weld and had them powder coated looks pretty good. I also got the intercooler from e-bay did all my own fab work and got a little over 300$ in the whole thing. last time I logged my iat's where 113-117 under boost and outside air was 102.

If your doing it for a procharger then we sell a kit for this, its $850 and includes mandrel bent pipes and silicon hose fittings with the good T-bolt clamps.

yes aluminum, i have an AC/DC tig though

most of the time aluminized is cheaper, so if your using steel and are going to powder coat it get what ever is cheaper, maybe what is thinner if you want to save weight.

I used the universal piping kit off ebay and the pipe is very good quality and lightweight. I had to buy one extra 90 degree bend to make it all work. I bought my intercooler off ebay also. The hoses that came with the kit are useless. I popped a hole in one of the 90 degree hoses on just 10 psi. I went with some gates hose like procharger uses.

My front mount and all the piping costed less than $300 but it took forever to mock it all up and get it to fit right. Just depends if you have more time or money.

For the aluminum tubing, what is the reccomended thickness? .060 or .120? It seems that most, if not all of the stuff on ebay is .060. I bought some of that, it just to thin. I certainly won't be welding that, there wouldn't be anything left!

I used pre-bent mandrel 3" stock from Summit Racing. I'm sure I spent a little more than the Universal stuff on ebay though. It'd be cheaper if you knew a good welder so you could keep the silicone and the t-bolt clamps to a minimum. That stuff adds up quick!

I've used the ebay material on several cars, however there are some problems. The aluminum pipes seem to be chemically polished, some kind of anodize or coating. This has to be removed on the outside and inside of the pipe before it can be tig'ed. I tape off the end of the pipe to be welded and use red scotch pad to remove the coating, even then the puddle is dirty.

The rubber hoses that come in the "universal" kits are almost always junk, usually just throw that away and use some good reinforced Silicon. I bead roll all the pipe ends so, the worm gear Clamps are ok for low boost < 15psi, but are really one time use only.

There's alot of work in fabbing a nice IC kit for your car.

Good luck,
