Default Ati p1sc1 idler pulley...?

Well after 14,000 miles the pulley wore out. The bearing is still good but the surface has a big step in it and a sharp v on the surface that cut the belt in two so the belt snapped.
I'm going to get a pulley and belt but I was wondering wht the typical life span is from a belt and pulley?
Maybe I had it too tight? I had to go tighter to keep it from slipping and get full boost on the dyno.

Thanks

Is this on an F Body, with the narrower six rib belt? If it is, you might want to consider upgrading to the wider eight rib belt assembly.

Required pin kit.

Upgrading to the eight rib assembly would also include the new parts that would be needed to correct the current problem you have. Bob

I have the same problem so I just change belts everytime I do a oil change in the super charger. The only idler wheel I wear out seems to be the adjustable idler/top idler. I keep an extra one hand and just sand them down to keep it equal. I just use plumbers scratch cloth same thickness as the 6 rib belt and do the shoe/shine sand only takes a minute. I think I pay 15/19 for a belt so it is not worth taking a chance. I seen an lt1 car throw a belt on a dyno and just ripped the **** out of all his cooling hoses and made a mess everywhere. I will always try to avoid this.

Yea its the upper tensioner idler. Where are you getting the pulley from? ATI wants $65. I'll bet if I can find out who makes it it can be found for $20

had the same problem with idlers wearing prematurely...twice...first time with the same groove you described w/ no apparent bearing failure...belt coming apart and severing a braided ground stap...second time with the bearing retainer clip breaking, causing it to walk back and forth...with third set of ProCharger idlers, I replaced the stock idler and tensioner assembly...knock on wood...no issues since

Seems to be a common problem. I guess ATI is just trying to cut material and tooling cost by going with an aluminum pulley instead of steel. Shame on them.

If someone made a steel replacement pulley they would sell a lot of them.

I'm going to have one made and get a price on a small production run of 20 or so.

No one had heard of anyone making steel ones?

Thanks but I doubt it would work on a 6 rib setup.

I was having the same problem with my 12 rib. Once the pulley got worn enough, it actually started to vibrate which is what I think broke the bolt on my head unit. I had to send the head unit back to ATI to get reapired. Def need a steel idler or go SDCE

It worked good enough for 10's on my 6-rib

Camarogod98 or something like that was who made them a while back, he doesn't make them anymore. Keep looking, you will find one

not being an ***...just curious about the two comments made...they don't add up...
how can an 8-rib idler work with a 6-rib set-up and how can a "never used" one "work good enough for 10's"?

It's a 8-rib idler, and it works fine on a 6-rib. I said I never used it, I didn't say it was new. They were made 3+ years ago, it's going to be hard to find a new one. Had I got a pm from him, this would have been discussed

So you can use the Idler pulley from the 8 rib on the 6 rib setup without any problems?
It clears everything ok?
And its made of steel?

Sounds like what i'm looking for if this all pans out.
