I have not heard of people needing a tr8 untill 25+ psi. I run the tr6 gapped at .040.

i will get the full explanation today but Steve Petty told me not to be using a projected tip plug.....he was shocked that we used the tr-6s....supposed to give me what he feels is a better alternative today and explain his reasoning using my 317 heads.

I ran TR6's gapped at .030" also. Never had a problem blowing them out, although I ran a max of 8psi.

I thought I saw a rule of thumb to decrease plug gap by .010" for every 100 hp increase. But, that was with nitrous.

Here is the spark plug reference in the nitrous section:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/removed-locked-thread-graveyard/456380-spark-plug-reference-chart.html

FWIW, I have mine gapped at .040" running 7-8 psi. The only problem I have is a miss on cylinder 8 between 1000 and 1500 rpm only. It just popped up yesterday, so have not investigated it yet.

Its not a matter of need guys. Its a matter of safety. period. Less chance of heat soak on a NGK 8 then there is on a TR6. A glowing plug has more chance of lighting off the incoming mixture like was stated causing pre ignition IE knock retard.

Change to a cooler plug like the NGK 7's, 8's or 9's etc and decrease the chances of the plug ever glowing and better yet not pre igniting an incoming mixture before the PCM actually tells it to spark.

If that was the case, I would have .000" gap!!

I've been running TR8's, and the new turbo combo runs an equivalent plug that the AllPro heads require.

yes they did. They said the projected tip was a hot spot waiting to cause detonation. i was told to run a R5671A-7 or 8 since i am trying to push the incons. I will try them and see how they do. I have a set of tr6s sitting here if they dont work out. They wanted me to run a -8 or -9 heat range but said to go 7/8 since i daily drive the car.
