Default Help me decide

Im ready to buy a 4.00 BORE short block now and push my setup to the max. I want a short block that has at least the following internals:
Stock or 4.00 Eagle crank
Callies rods
Diamond pistons with lowered rings for extra boost
ARP rod bolts
Clevite main

I was hoping to go with Erik at HPE, but for some reason its really hard to get hold of him so now Im thinking LS1SPEED or SDPC or Texas Speed.

I wanted an LS2 with either 364 or 402, but i noticed that Erik and LS1SPEED prefer the iron block while SDPC and Texas Speed are fine with the LS2's and even offer the LS1-LS2 conversion kit.

I like the weight savings from the LS2 over the LQ9 block, but some say the LS2 casting is not very clean.

I know W2W are one of the best, but I'm not willing to spend an arm and leg for a short block.

My goal is to max out the D-1SC at 7000 RPM with 3.4 pulley and 7.25 crank pulley and might run 50 shot on top of it.

So first, should i go with a LS2 or LQ9 block?
Second, should i stay with a 3.622 Stroke or upgrade to a 4.00 Stroke? I think a 3.622 Stroke would be better for a 7000RPM application.
Third, which engine builder should i go with from your guys experince?

I spoke with Texas Speed and they were very helpful and answered all my questions. They also quoted me great prices. Still have to decide 364, 402 LS2 or 370, 408 LQ9 shortblock. The price for the 408 LQ9 is around the same as a 364 LS2. Its really hard to make a choice.

My vote would be the iron 408. More cubes is more power, and more available power in the future. If its gonna cost the same go bigger.

I was thinking about this since I talked to you on the phone yesterday. Since the 408 LQ9's price is the same as the smaller 364 LS2, I'd go with the 408. We recently made good power (750+ rwhp) with the SLP 402 with a D-1SC, and I was surprised the D-1SC did not run out of steam on the 402. From what I know about you, you won't keep it at this power level for long, so the iron block will be there for you in your future builds. Bob

The LQ9 will weigh 90-100lbs more than an LS2. I will have to do the BMR K-member and maybe a lightweight battery to reduce that weight in the front. I guess everyone is saying go with the LQ9 and no one wants to support the LS2. What would 100lbs translate in the 1/4 mile?

So you saying 100lbs = 10rwhp only. Wow then a LQ9 makes more sense now.

What I am saying is that unless you are building a dedicated race car then the 100 pounds over the front end of the car is not going to be noticed. A 408 with a D1SC is going to produce 750+rwhp. At that point I wouldnt worry about the extra weight. I would worry about keeping it between the ditches...
