Default Belt problem need help !!!

ok well im a 04 silverado ss lq9 engine vortech supercharged, my problem is when i am in the burnout box at the line i do an awd burnout to get all four sticky and get the water off , when i do this as soon as i brake my belt flies off and usually gets all torn up in the pullies. i through 3 belts this weekend and ripped 2 in half. i dont know wtf, im thinking maybe my tensioner is going south, my pullies seem alligned fine, i did the exact same thing last time at the track and only had it throw the belt the very last run i did. but other than that no problems. here is a pic of what my belt set up looks like except im running a 3.1 pulley on the vortech. any ideas guys i relly need to figure out what is causing this. no one on the truck forum really knew what was happening.

Run the shortest belt that will fit.

When you load it up and turn some rpm the belt stretches, more than most people realize. The belt can stretch beyond what the tensioner can take up. When you jump back out of it, like after a burnout, the belt wraps up and can be tossed off pretty easily. You might check a friendly parts store for a larger idler pulley that will take up more belt. You'll have to look in a picture book for it and take a look at a few.

How close is the belt to touching itself by the blower?

thats what i was thinking if you can , look at the threaded hole by the idler pulley below the blowr another one could probably fit in the hole to take up some more slack , i was also thinking of upgrading the sping in the tensioner.

An idler might fit in the outside hole, but you would lose some belt wrap. Is your blower pulley smaller than the one in the picture? If the belt touches itself its all over. It looks close now but it could be the angle.

its not as close as it looks, but it woudlnt loose wrap it would increase it, i was talking about making the small gap smaller.

Oh, I see I thought you were going to add an inside idler to take up the belt. I wouldn't close in on it any further.

When you tried the short belt were you trying to slip it over the smooth idler or another pulley?

I see you are using the factory tensioner....

My blower doesnt run off the accesory belt like that, but I did recently have 6 rib belt issues. Usually it just came forward 1 rib, and did minor damage. Obviously with a blower being driven off it, it could be much worse.

Fitting a manual Katech tensioner with a high sidewall pulley sorted it for me.

i talked to katech and they said using the katech wouldnt be good for me since my blower used the accesory drive. i did look at my tensioner and found some damage. i replaced it and am going to go with a larger blower pulley to keep the belt tighter , hopefully no more problems.
