Default Cheap intercoolers??

ive come across some pretty cheap intercoolers on ebay and was wondering...what gives? back when i was in my 4cyl turbo performance days, an intercooler of this caliber would run upwards of $600-800 bucks. and here are a few for less than 250.....is there a scam hidden somewhere in here???

Thumbs down In looking at..

The 3 units shown on the bag, it looks to me that the inlet and outlet connections are facing each other, and at the same end of the core.
That would direct the majority of the airflow straight across, thru the tubes closest to the inlet/out and seriously reduce the rest of the core exposure to air flow.....

Perhaps, the tanks have flow director plates in them??

id have to dig around to find it, but someone did a comparo of the cheap ebay OBX intercoolers VS some name brand ones.

they checked efficetcy and pressure drop, and the 'coolers all came out almost identically.

there are no flow director plates or anything... you can see straight across..
intrestingly, there have been people who cut off the end tank and flipped it. i know someone on this board did it..

anyone know who it was, and if he posted results??

I was the one that cut and flipped one side of the end cap to make more use of the core. I dont have any before numbers but the highest intake temps on a 100° day was about 130°

in a supercharged application (ATI D1-SC) would it be better to run 1 large intercooler or would using the 2 smaller coolers that come with the kit work just fine??

FYI- forged 402 D1-SC...trying to achieve 650rwhp.

theintercooler is pressurized... so the entire thing will be filled with air. Though without some sort of flow directing flates, efficincy will be down, but it will still work really well.
People have had great luck with these ebay items...

I understand the principle of the cooler.
I agree that the flow, without directors, will be somewhat messed up.
I think "great luck" is a ?, that could/should be answered by an actual performance comparison.

Mine works GREAT. Inatke temps are always within 10* of ambient. Also, don't worry about the pressure drop....just run you WG line after the TB

TNTramair - get the 1 large FMIC. Works way better than the 2 stock ones. My setup was similiar to yours and when I switched to the FMIC ( OBX ) my around town IAT's dropped about 60 degrees and almost 100 at the track.

+1 for me also. Even in FL with me beating on it, the IATs arent above 10* above ambient.

here is some pictures here of the intercooler as you can see fins are bent and i dont kwno what the bubbles are on the tubes, and if you look in side the neck you will see how they are slanted on each sides cutting down of the cfm able to go though, this is what you get for 175.00 lol
