Rear mounted PT88, more info
Last night I took the car over to my friends house so he can swap the turbo back to the T76. On the way there I decided to play around with it some since it was 55 degrees out. To my amazement it made 2 psi on the trans brake, had 8 psi by 6500 and as soon as I clicked into 2nd it spooled right to 13psi and stayed there. It would not do this the last time I had it at the track, but it was about 15 degrees warmer as well.
If I wanted to spend more money on this I'm pretty sure I could get the 88 to work. It would require a looser converter to let it build boost and probably a 3.25 gear to get up in the rpms a little faster. The major key is insulating the exhaust really good.
While I'm sure I could get the PT88 to work I don't think it would be as much fun on the street as the 76R is. I live in a very harsh climate and I don't think the 88 would spool well at all in the summer here since our air gets so thin. The difference of 75 to 55 degrees was a huge difference in the way the car spooled.
Longrange4u, you will probably be OK with your setup since it's a race application and you are making sacrifices I won't.

Hmmm 8psi by 6500 is still pretty bad don't you think? I'm seeing 10psi by 3500 if I sit on the 2step for a while. I can see 25psi by 6500 if I have the boost controller set for that. Maybe you don't also build enough heat to make it all work.

Before anyone says put the turbo in the engine bay let me cut you off. I will put the turbo in the engine bay under a few conditions:
1. Someone else does all the work
2. Someone else pays for the labor
3. I get a COMPLETE turbo kit for free
4. Someone figures out how to keep my car cool during the 115 degree summer temps, I have trouble now with just and iron block swap. Pusher fans = not gonna happen.
Other than that, the turbo stays where it is.
Once I get the 76 back on the car is done except for a 6pt rollbar. No more major money spending on this toy if I can help it.

My GT47-88 is pretty laggy with my engine, I don't have blazing amounts of power below 3500. I might end up swapping my converter once I have enough data ie. like 100 passes on this combo.

Jermey... good post. This makes me feel better about my setup. It also makes me think about my converter.
The differences with my setup and yours (add in the ones you can think of):
-----------------------Longrange4u----------------Zombie
Gears:--------------------3.50----------------------2.70? I cant remember
Exhaust insulate/wrap:----Complete------------------Partial
Turbo AR:------------------.96-----------------------.96
Trans:------------------TH400 w/TB----------------TH400 w/TB
Stall:---------------------3400---------------------?????? Dont remember
Engine:--------------------408----------------------370
Compression Ratio:-------~8.2:1--------------------?????? Dont remember
Hmmm what else do we need to add for good comparisson... oh besides your in Vegas NV and I am in Central TX. I have been considering going with a looser converter.... Sounds like I may need to do that. I am hoping between my wrap.... and my cubes I will make up for the probs your having.

Well, I'm back up and running on the T76 now, life is good Still haven't wrapped all the exhaust due to time. Should be interesting at the track. No noticable lag difference going from the .81 housing to the .96, i'll get back pressure measurements later this week.
My converter stalls to 3000 N/A on the trans brake and 4000 rpms on 10psi. What converter are you using Longrange? If it's a 3400 rated VIG you should be fine unless you start to push through it. You will probably leave around 5000 rpms is my guess.
