Default Back pressure... help an ignorant fool here please.

I think I got why backpressure(excessive) is bad for Turbos. I'm guessing it would be working against the way the wheel is spinning?

But what I don't get is how back pressure is built and how it effects any performance with a turbo/sc/na setup.

Anyone know where one can learn about such things? Or can one explain it to me?

Ill take a shot at this..

Excess backpressure is built by the the exhaust side having a retriction... like a stock exhaust and not being able to flow freely the exhaust being thrown out of the turbo... which would then keep the exhaust side of the turbo from effienctly working...

right?

The backpressure is caused by the turbo. With a turbo, by physics, the exhaust wheel couldn't do any work (compress intake air) if it didn't cause a pressure drop. This backpressure reduces power output of the engine because of the pumping losses.

right?
So if you have a stock exhaust you need to do stuff like clip a wheel and whatnot?

So the only way to free up back pressure is to relieve restriction?

dont clip the wheel. IF YOU NEED a better flowing exhaust, a cutout it a nice quick fix, and will get the job done

exactly... get a free flowing muffler ... do not modify the wheel..
