Default Guys With 6.0 Iron Blocks Come In

Well A Buddy Of Mines Was Gonna Build A 1000hp Turbo Vette Using A 6.0 Iron Block,hes Having Lots Of Problems Lately And Wants To Give The Block To Me.now I Need To Know A Few Questions About It

-how Much More Does It Weight?
-what Will Be The Displacement On It?
-is Everything From An Fbody Ls1 Interchangeable?

i have heard 60lbs more and i have heard 80lbs more.

displacement depends on your bore and stroke. anywhere from 363 up to 434(i think). most people either go stock crank .030 over for something like a 368ci or with a 4" crank and .030 over for a 408ci

everything bolts right over.

yup its weighs 70 pounds more then ls1

stock displacement is 364 or 368 i dont remember
but he probaly bored it alittle so id guess 370

and everything will swap with it

It is about 80lbs heavier. Everything bolts right up.. but I did run into one snag when swapping mine over. My oilpan on my GTO has the provision for the oil dipstick. SO when I installed it I put it in there. Little did I know the 6.0L iron block has the dipstick hole in the side of the block, so when I went for my first drive, I had oil everywhere. You will have to cover that hole.

Parish is right on with the CI options... I chose to stick with the stock crank and a .030" overbore which is 370ci.

I think you also have to drill and tap a hole for the third altenator bolt.Not a 100% sure.

you will have to drill and tap one hole in the front for the alternator bracket.
To get your C.I. you multiply stoke X bore X bore X .7854 X 8(number of cylinders)
I think it is around 80lbs heavier also

4.030" bore with stock LS1 crank is a 370.

Stock 6.0L truck engines come in at 364.

On my 04 GTO, I didn't have to drill any holes to swap everything over, just the dipstick plug as I mentioned above.

If you bought a short block built already, the hole is already drilled and tapped for you. But if you bought a bare block out of a truck or from GM, then you have to drill the hole. I'll save you some trouble and buy the block from you. I'm in the market for one tooooo.

I have a iron 370 im putting a procharger on. There is one bolt hole missing on the iron block that the blower bracket uses. So you have 2 bolts holding the blower on instead of 3. No one has reported a failure yet, but it doesnt leave ya feeling too confident. Supposedly you can drill and tap the lock for this hole, but it seems like an extremely delicate procedure if its possible at all.

it is not that hard, u should do it ASAP.

i noticed one thing on my 6.0 block, there are only provisions for 3 of the altenator bolts. the 4th on the top left looking from the front has no spot to bolt anything to.

yes thats what i mean, 4 bolts were holding my alt including the side one. Now only 3 bolts including side hold the alt with the 6.0 block. Do you think attachment at the top left is vital?
