Default HP Limit of Magnuson?

As I understand, there is only one "head unit" for the Magnuson kits. In comparison, I know there are all kinds of head unit options for syntrifucal (Vortec, Paxton, etc.) to match higher HP/CFM requirements.

So this leads me to ask "What's the HP/CFM limit of the Magnuson?"

They are two types of Magnuson... The first one is MP112 and the highest I have seen it dyno was around 540rwhp on a Dynojet with all the supporting mods. The second one is the MP122 and the highest I have seen it dyno was 630rwhp on a Dynojet with all the supporting mods. I never saw flow numbers in CFM's from any of these units.

so if you want to go beyond say 650rwhp, magnuson is out of the question

You might be able to squeeze 650rwhp out of the MP122 but you will need to run higher octane either from Race Fuel or Alky to allow you to run very high timing among other different things such as very good flowing heads, cam choice, intake manifold, TB, higher compression (10.0+), etc....

Bascially you will have to maximize your power output in N/A before you bolt and max out the MP122 to get that number. With other blowers such as YSi(800rwhp), D-1SC(750rwhp), F1(800rwhp) you can up the boost with only a built bottom end and get over 650rwhp.

People usually want to use the magnuson because of the low bottom end TQ. It generates very high TQ numbers below 3K RPM where most Centri Blowers and Turbos cant match until after 3500-4000 RPM. IMO I would really consider a Magnuson in a truck to tow things with. That would be the only application i would use one.

Good luck

I dont know if anyone did port one before, but I dont see why its not possible. Ported Eatons are picking up 30-40rwhp from what I have seen which is not bad.

nine ball put down 505rwhp on a mustang dyno with his c6 with only 5 psi. he did have a cam, headers and exhaust... and this was on the new 90mm m112. it might have been a m122 but i dont think that it was. so if he did 505 on a mustang that is good for atleast 530 on a dynojet and that is only 5 psi!

i plan on going with one of these chargers within the next year or so. great torque for the street! i dont see why someone on the street would need more than the magnuson can produce. but to each his own.... but i love a roots style charger and its qualities so that is what i will go with

It doesn't really matter how much boost he saw on the gauge... What matters more is the size of the SC pulley and the crank pulley. A car with heads and cam might only see 5psi, but it could be running the same pulley that might show 8psi on a stock engine.

These numbers sound about right for RWHP, I've seen 750+ flywheel HP on a 402 with M122H. (All Magnuson 122s are "H") Magnuson should also have the Eaton TVS superchargers available sometime this year - The R1900 TVS should be capable of 800+ flywheel HP and the R2300 TVS I expect will be capable of 1000+ flywheel HP.

how do these "larger" superchargers compare in size to the "standard" Magnuson

Mine is a smaller MP112 unit. Stock 3.4" pulley. 5 psi with stock unported heads, basically just a 230/230 114 cam and headers. 509 rwhp on the Mustang dyno, which has shown to be approx 10% less than local dynojets (~550-560 rwhp Dynojet). With some pulley swaps, it could reach 600 rwhp. The larger MP122 should see 650+ rwhp no problem on a properly setup engine.

Porting on Magnas does not help, they are already designed with nice lower manifolds. The Mustangs port them because their lower manifolds aren't optimized like Magnas.

I'm very happy with the performance of my C6, it is fast enough to break **** in the drivetrain.

Ed @ Late Model Speed has a kit for the MP112 unit, but in my opinion, it does not offer enough horsepower for the buck. 500ish rwhp is just not enough for me to justify spending my hard earned money. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing his kits at all! In fact, I give the guy credit for putting out a kit that everyone else has abandoned.

When (IF) Ed makes a kit for the MP122 or TVS series, I will be the first to jump on it. I require the capability of 600+ rwhp out of any forced induction setup before I start spending my money.

It looks like a single turbo is the way to go in order to meet my needs, but I'm holding out on a forced induction purchase for a little while longer, in the hope that Ed comes through with my dream kit.

Ed - feel free to let me know if there is a future for the MP122 or TVS kit!

MP112's can make 600/600rwhp.

Buddy of mine with a ls2 402 and a 112Maggie (with supporting bolt-on's) made 570rwhp / 590rwtq with a bad A/F. He's installing 1 7\8 Kooks, 3" exhaust, 100MAF soon, with a proper tune, it should hit the 600/600 mark.

hell ya i be second in line if ed uses the tvs or the 122h, i went to the eaton site and it said that thier tvs blower is smaller than thier other blowers which if it is true would kick ***, for 6,ooo ed has a good kit, but all other kits offer room to grow down the road and the 112 can only go like 9 pounds of boost,ed please consider putting a package with the bigger blowers, if u do i will name my first born son after u, or atleast his middle name will be ed

Thanks for all of the support guys, we really appreciate it

I am currently trying to get my hands on a TVS from Magnuson, as soon as I can get one, I will figure out a way to make it fit! From what I've heard about the TVS, I think it's best to skip the 122H and go straight to the TVS.

One thing to keep in mind, if someone buys my kit, any future improvements(bigger blower, etc) will be upgradeable, and I will always be willing to give credit for your existing unit to step up to the bigger unit. I'm a car guy too, and I understand how it is when you spend a bunch of money and a month later, something better comes out

and that is why i am gonna go with ed when the time comes! he has been answering all the questions that i have pouring onto him lol.

but for what my goals and intentions, the 112 is plenty for me but if ed does get a different blower to work after i get my 112... well then i might have to step up

Not sure what the HP limit would be on the Magnuson, naturally it's relevent to the engine it's bolted too...

I'm running an LS2 with a cam 224/232 .600" .600" 115 LSA.
Springs and hardened pushrods.
Stock magnacharger front and rear pullies for the 2006 GTO.
LPE CAI
Kooks LT headers,
Catless mids and Corsa Touring Catback.

Here is the dyno graph.

There's still quite a few things I can do for bigger numbers on the dyno without using Nitrous.

First of all, some good Heads.
The headers I"m running are 1 3/4 instead of the kooks 1 7/8.
Changing the rear pulleys to the corvette pulleys for more boost.
Smaller front pulley for more boost.
Bigger crank pulley for more boost.
Then of course, alcohol injection.

I think doing all of that would probably get 600+rwhp, after that your looking at bigger engine.

If you want the big hp numbers, which I don't, you may want to look at a Twin turbo setup.

IMO opinion, the great thing about the maggie is the torque curve...the graph above shows roughly 3000rpm to 6500 rpm. But even before 3000rpm the torque is there...and it's nice.

That says alot about someone... and how they run their business!!

Ed - You made me very thankful that I chose to hold off on a turbo kit. Do you need a LT4 mule for fitting? I assume the TVS is intercooled?

Thanks for those kind words, I really appreciate them. I keep forgetting that your car is an LT4. Please give me a call at the number in my sig, I would like to discuss a possible one-off LT4 kit with you.

Thanks,
Ed

BTW, blasted2hell - Nice numbers
