Default busted # 7 ringland minutes after

picked up from rpm and was on way home (rush hour in dallas) was missing @ 2k called rpm was told probabaly fuel pump....a couple minutes later started to rattle, shut down towed home. tore down and found busted ring land on #7 and trashed combustion chamber. now the heads are @fuestal racing getting ported and fixed.also building 396 short block. but for now i have a stock shortblock and heads. i am thinking about putting it in with my cam and procharger til new stuff is done. will this work ok? i am worried that the tune could have been the problem.i had heard alot of good stuff about them. but now i am hearing other stuff too. any suggestions? thanks....

Ringlands don't just break. Something was obviously not right in your engine. Were the rings gapped properly?

Proabbly a fuel pump? Come on dude...Where you getting on it on your way home at all? They just dont shell rings at cruising speed. Under boost they do.

stock short blocks give up under boost, im sure it didnt happen just cruising, some motors take it longer than others some give up the #7 pretty quick

build a nice stout forged shortbloakc and go enjoy the BOOST

they said it only produced 4.5 lbs that should not have caused it under light throttle. i am mainly just hoping this block will hold for three or four months.

97 before the pro charger. drove another two months before the charger then had it tuned and was on the way home. when i put heads cam procharger on all the pistons had the same burn pattern/color and no sign of detonation. i am sure the motor was well worn i just want to rule out any other problems.

keep the boost down to 7 lbs and it will live. loosening the ring gap will not alleviate the problem, it has shitty brittle cast pistons with weak ringlands.

We don't normally have any problems at 8 psi of boost with an ATI ProCharger. I'd say this engine with all 97 bottles of nitrous having been run through it was probably just waiting to come apart. Bob

A 4.50" pulley should give you a lot more than 4 or 5 pounds of boost, unless you have big cubes and a huge cam. I'd make sure the by pass valve is working correctly, and also look for belt dust on the blower, which would indicate belt slippage. These blower belts need to be really tight. Bob

sorry to say but this is the reason why my car isnt making full 7.5psi, for fear of my motor coming apart.

on another note, i hope your build goes better and you run the psi you want

I wouldnt doubt if the tuning had something to do with it...Just my personal opinion. Stock SB or not still shouldnt have blown up "cruising" around to the house like you say.
