GT40-88 Rear Mount Z06 - Build pics!!
Hey everyone, this is a friend of mines car, he is in Iraq for the next 2 months so I am documenting the progress of his build for him.
This is the first round of mods, so for now he is doing the following -
Presicion 40-88
Tial 40mm Wastegate
Tial 50mm Blow Off
60lb Injectors
Custom piping
Stock Manifolds
Meth Injection - No intercooler yet, but he is going to one later.
Fuel system (not decided yet...)
Boost Guage, Meth LED and Oil pump LED
He is trying to figure out how to do the oiling...maybe a self contained unit, maybe like a regular STS kit...we will see.
Sorry for all the rambling, here are some pics !
This is the Meth Kit that we are installing. It usually comes with a plastic tank and it just didn't look right in the engine bay...We went ahead and built a plate to mount all pump, harness, relay and fuse. This will all be hidden by the front bumper and out of the way...should be great!
This is the custom aluminium tank we built...it is going to be polished and then powdercoated a translucent blue to match the color of the car...Will hold way more then the stock plastic tank and fits alot better....

Here is the start of the Y-Pipe!
Thanks for looking and please check back for some updates!

That y-pipe looks like it just dead ends in that one pic.

The inside of the tank is coated with a Methanol SAFE gas tank sealant.
Thanks for the kind words everyone!

The pipe is not finished yet...we are working on the rest of it this morning.
I will post some updated pics as soon as I can.

Here is a shot of the inside of the 2-into-1 merge collector.
We are running 2.5" pipe to the Y, flaring the Y to 2.75 and then running a 2.75 to 3" megaphone. The rest of the exhuast side will be 3" stainless and the intake will be 2.5".
Please keep checking back for more pics and info!

Is their a reason why you guys used a GT4088? A GT4088 is only a 64mm compressor wheel. Heck for that small, you should have gone with a standard 67mm Garrett unit. The standard 67 would spool faster, make more power and be packaged smaller as well.

This is a budget build for a customer...we had a 40-88 that we were 'stuck with' from another customer, so we are using this turbo to help keep the costs down and build time to a minimum.
We may end up switching turbos eventually, but BIG power is not so much of a concern...This is a fun car that sometimes roll races...nothing crazy. Spool shouldn't be an issue with this setup either.
We like the 40-88's.

Setup looks good, but I have got a question as to what people are doing about getting oil from the turbo back to the motor. I know the STS kits use a pump but is it a steady flow rate or does it vary and if so how? I'm new to this, I'm personally a die hard nitorus guy but my boss is wanting to do a rear mount on his 98 so I'm looking into this for him, not trying to to hijack the thread just looking for some help thanks, nice car again.

We are running a pump built specifically for a remote turbo application. Basically, you want to run a SS -4 (or -3) to the turbo then a check valve and restrictor. Then coming out of the turbo run a -10 (or -8) to the pump. We are going to be running this pump full voltage all the time but on some you may want to run a boost a pump setup.
If you have any specific questions about the pump, feel free to PM me and I can give you some more info.
