Car is a M6 with 3:73 gears. Tires are 245X40X18 Nexen Z rated. They have a wear rating of 340 which probably means then are a hard rubber?

That is your normal run of the mill z-rated rubber that's non nitto, m/t, cheater slick's, or any other of your favorite drag/street radial brand... Man, my junk made 600 and with 3.73 and stock 275's, first is not very manageable. From a second gear punch anything past 4500rpm and it starts to spin. You deff. have to use pedal management. You'll probably have some similar problems with those 18's and 245 but nothing your right foot can't handle. IMHO.

Back when I was NA, I was putting down 420 RWHP, and I hooked like a MF even in first gear. Again, I had 275 Nitto DR's though and all the drag suspension goodies you could think of.

I have a video of my car at that time with a scene of me opening it up in first gear through 4th. It hooked and launched like a champ. If you could get a good tire/suspension combo setup like mine, I am confident you could achieve the same traction as I did. (BTW, I also had 3.73's at the time)

I'll try to dig up the video and post it where you can see.

accually...a very wide low profile tire like hooser 335-35-17, hooks better on a roll then a drag car with some 15 drag tire....when your on a roll...more tire on the ground is just better then a squishy side wall

I didn't have much of a problem hooking with my LT1 blower combo... Just upgrade the suspension, use really soft tires, and find some nice grooved concrete. You'll either hook like mad or break something...

...I ripped the center hub out of a clutch disk on a 1-2 shift.

Traction with my turbo setup will be a whole new ball game.

if you don't like how hard the turbo hits play with your tune and get a muti-stage boost controller.......its that easy

I would kill for the traction you F-body guys have off the line with a decent set of tires. Damn IRS is the curse of me and why I refuse to race from a dig. My last IRS Cobra wheel hopped like a mother but hooked up after a while and my C5 won't hook up under about 45 mph.

I know super low profile tires aren't good, but is there much of a difference in traction between a 16" and 17" tall wheel?

on 17" nitto 315s, on high boost full suspension, coudn't hook **** till 4th gear. Now on 18" BFG DR's 315s... I can acutally use part of 2nd gear.... Im very impressed with these tires. Now if the track just hooked as well as the street

I agree.

I'm over 700/600 with 100% stock suspension and I can still spin a set of warmed up 26"x11.5"x16 ET streets if I whack it in second gear on the street.

I haven't tried a set of DRs yet but the stock tires are a joke for anything other then smoke shows

Thanks. It ran pretty strong for N/A. With slicks at the track it did an 11.8. It took 5300 RPM to finally not bog the motor after the launch! At that RPM it actually lifted the front two 17X9.5 wheels off the ground 2 inches, and also yeilded me the 11.8.

Now that its supercharged I haven't got a good track run in yet, but I am confident I will in a few more months

With about 520 rwhp I ran 275/40/17's on my stock SS rims and they would hook but they are a very soft tire and will wear out fast.

for basic street use I run 305/30/18 Nitto Drag Radials wiht my 18" wheels. It won't hook from a dig but if I get some speed going, I can mash it and it will go. the bigger wheel and slightly taller tire cuts down on the gearing.

Sumitomwhatevers wont get it done.
Now try the same thing at 3000rpm. lol I guarantee your results will differ from a turbo car.

I agree.....sumitomwhatevers will not get it done.
