Default Wideband O2 STS turbo mounting??

I just got an AEM UEGO A/F gauge. The instructions say to mount the 02 Sensor before the cats but after the turbo. I have an STS and that just isn't going to happen
WHAT TO DO??? WHAT TO DO???? I don't really want to gut my cats

I mounted mine in the tailpipe, about 8" past the turbo. My closed loop readings are dead on at 14.7:1 A/F, so it seems to be working right. I've heard people say that the exhaust pressure before the turbo can skew the sensor readings. I am running cats also, and they don't seem to affect the readings.

Did you have the A/F checked with another tester? to confirm they read the same?

It is a an AEM 30-4100 UEGO controller. I just got off the phone with AEM they said "The gauge was not designed to work in this situation, it must go as far back as possible, but it MUST be before cats to be accurate."
So damned if you do....damned if you don't. I am going to go just before one of the cats I guess????

So the reading was the same in both spots? I would rather put the sensor after the turbo....After all that is where the dyno would check A/F

I did not check it with another tester, but since the closed loop readings were 14.7, it agrees with the the narrowband sensors, at least under normal driving conditions. Also, the readings I get during WOT are close to the numbers from my dyno tune.

Screw the cats...gut or get rid of IMO. I have no cats so I used my rear O2 bung on the passenger side for the wideband.

I put my WB about 8" after the turbo on my STS. I ran and tuned WITH cats for about 8 months without problem. I then went to an ORY and deleted the cats. BEN factors with EFILive where within 1-3% (thats pretty damn close ), since I run in open loop all the time. The difference was probably more from a less restrictive exhaust then from going though the cats.

There is some real world before and after for ya

I have no cats and I tried it in the y-pipe. It gave me funny readings except at idle or light cruise, where it was perfect 14.7. I put it on the turbo exhaust and it reads right.

it will be fine before or after the cats. as long as you don't have exhaust leaks

Put it after the turbo! The added back pressure from the turbo will kill the sensor.

So it needs to be in the downpipe? How far down and what about the old O2?
